Sorry, I don't know anything about flashing in edl mode. But if you can access your bootloader, then you can boot the recovery.img in the OrangeFox zip (after extracting it from the zip), with:
fastboot boot recovery.img

Then you can flash the OrangeFox zip.

Hi, I have some data that I want to recover in my backup that was made with orangefox. If I restore the backup I can then access from the recovery all the directories that I'm looking for. Is there a way to "extract" the backup without restoring the whole backup?

I did it in the past with the TWRP recovery, where the backups were simple .tar files

Try Titanium backup, i was able to extract twrp backups before. It takes long to load, but you can recover apps separately.

Not Sure If it works with orangefox too, but should be the same structure as twrp.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if this works only for apps or should it work for other files present in the data partition?

I was working for apps, app data and all android settings. What else is in the data partition?

Do you mix it up with the internal sd?

Try different TWRP or other OrangeFox recovery. I suggest using the twrp xiaomi.eu supports for their newest firmware. Just boot into it via fastboot and see if it shows your files.

I had that problem too and it was just the recovery, that can't decrypt the files. Then you take a backup or you can enter the files via PC.

Edit: Wait, if you just unlocked the bootloader, your device has been wiped, you know that, right? Unlocking bootloader always means format of data partition.

I'm unable to format data after flashing MIUI 14 (A13) using this orangefox, always get message "Unable to check merge status"
I came from Lineage19.1 official (A12.1) to MIUI 14 global.

I'm currently using ArrowOS Android 11 and TWRP and want to install a more recent Android 12 or 13 ROM. If I flash this recovery over my current recovery I'll have access to internal storage or I'll need to install the ROM from an external storage?

Install new rom from old recovery and add new recovery to flash queue to update it all at once? Keep a copy of the new recovery on a PC so worst case you just fastboot-boot from that and then flash the new recovery.

TEMPORARILY setting your screen lock to 'none' should also let the old recovery decrypt the new data partition, then you can flash new recovery and remember to enable your lockscreen settings once you're done

Thank you for your reply! Someone suggested me to flash MIUI first then install a custom ROM later. I'm installing the latest MIUI with MiFlash (it's taking some time). After that can I install the OrangeFox using fastboot?

As long as you don't tell MiFlash to lock the bootloader I don't see why not? Use fastboot-boot instead of fastboot-flash then if you want a permanent install do it from within the recovery (I'm not sure on the technical reason for this if anyone can chime in?)

    Bugs:
The "Reflash OrangeFox after flashing a ROM" feature is not working.

    The current workaround is either:
    a) to manually select "Flash current OrangeFox" from the main menu (immediately after ROM installation finishes), or
    b) to flash the OrangeFox zip again (also immediately after ROM installation finishes).
