What key sequence did you use and when did you press them? I got into TWRP a few times but now I'm having trouble remembering.

Power off phone, while it's off press and continue to hold the volume up key.

While holding volume up key, press the power button until the phone starts - usually upto 5 secs

Release the power key and continue to hold volume up....

TWRP will initialise...

Just Noticed where the boot problems came from -- you obviously want the phone to boot into recovery to activate magisk root...

Problems occur if on reboot after fastboot flash, *YOU MUST REMOVE USB CABLE8 or stoopid phone refuses to boot into recovery (magisk)

Hope this clarifies a bit.. ;)

Any solution for partition lenght error by flashing twrp for Mate 9? (demo version with unlocked bootloader)

"target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery_ramdisk' (32567 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.704s]
writing 'recovery_ramdisk'...
FAILED (remote: partition length get error)
finished. total time: 0.715s"

Looks like you've got a device still running Nougat, find a TWRP for Nougat based ROMs. This one is likely for devices on an Oreo vendor (recovery_ramdisk only appeared with Android 8).
I gonna look but i cant find it for that model on that moment.
Upgrade of android its not possible because of demo version dont have oreo update.
So im walking aroud the solution because no correct file.
revocery_ramdisk its name of used recovery partition in that model
In that situation i was try to flash twrp from that topic.

Thank you for a clue. I finded twrp for nugat system file and is luck to falsh with twrp.

UPDATE:
Problem solved. Device flashed and rebranded succesfully.
