Yes you need to format data for xiaomi.eu rom. I ended up formatting data AFTER flashing the ROM. (I used fastboot format userdata but it should also work for TWRP).

Just been reading this thread and I'm not quite sure how this unofficial version of TWRP differs from the official one. Is there a reason I would use this one over the official one?
I'm thinking about buying a Mi Max 3 5G. I don't really feel like I need a custom ROM (unless people recommend it) but would like to root with TWRP and Magisk. Can anyone confirm that Magisk plays nice on this thing?

there wouldnt be a clear simple step by step guide to flashing the recovery and it being perminant and everything working propely as it should? just ive tried twice and ended with issues, want to have another go but not sure what i didint do right before
Okay, ive mged to get twrp working fine, miui.eu rom installed and magisk but its behaving wierdly. Magisk says its all fine but any app wanting root access they just time out, no promp, so i set to auto agree and still, they just time out.
Also volte access seems to have dissapreared, phone claims its not enabled by the network but it was.
anyone else having either of these issues?

Nothing at the moment you can install an android 10 pixel experience gsi based of Xiaomi EU cn 3.17 Rom as the vendor works, or you can wait till I build one or maybe ?
What version of MIUI do you mean?

Well i can conclude @mauronofrio that this twrp needs to be update/fixed because there issues like the fact everytime i install a custom rom, it keeps sending me to the bootloader and the thing is its not the custom rom thats the issues its the twrp it even struggles to install gsi, please fix thesee
