Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T
hello guys ,
iam new here , i got my files encrypted by twrp and cant boot to system and i got random letters and numbers for all files in internal storage
iam using twrp 3.3.1-2
anyone knows how to decrypt my files back or even boot to system once cause i really have very very important files for work and college and it will be a nightmare if i lost them
please help..

Firstly I would suggest you upgrade your recovery to 3.5.0_9 just to make sure you've the latest stable (because of Bugfixes) then you should get a input mask to decrypt the storage.

If that doesn't work (I assume you just rooted your device) do a factory reset through twrp or wait for other suggestions.

@ Anyone correct if I'm wrong

//edit
really we have a user named "anyone" ?

Seconding that, chance is tiny but worth a try. If this does not work, no way.

What is more important on devices with Android10 or later, better even starting with Android 9, whenever you have to boot into recovery to flash anything, switch to swipe or none for lockscreen security.

Once you have no lockscreen security (only for the time needed to perform the task at hand, later re-activate PIN or Pattern) you will never ever face such issues because even though the device remains in encrypte mode, it's not encrypted due to lack of security activation and you can at least read and use all the files in recovery mode.

Yes that would be the real first step but he/she can't boot to system.

First i confirmed you finding, the rest was meant for everyone and for a safe future 😇

Sometimes we have to bite into the sour apple for now for what we did in the past but if we lear from it for the future
it's not all in vain which is why hints as to how to avoid the same issue in the future are a good way to sooth the current pain.

:giggle:

EDIT: sinde i'm already at it, proper backups should be selfevident nowadays. I recommend to store important data in the on a computer with copies in the cloud and access them from mobile either through that cloud storage and/or vie offline availability that major cloud services offer nowadays. That as far as data safety is concerned. Photos and Videos can be auto-uploaded in most cases as well.

Your phone doesn't boot after twrp installation or what? First try a twrp update then use a PC to browse your files.

PS: If you had change ROM from MIUI... Maybe by PC else goodbye

Just enter your security pattern or pin, that you are using to unlock your phone.

Hi. Can anyone help me? I'm new to this stuff.. I flashed a custom ROM (Pixel Experience) using TWRP. I successfully flashed it. But I want to try another custom ROM unfortunately I cannot access the TWRP recovery already.. Whenever I press VOLUME UP + Power, it goes to PixelExperience Recovery mode instead. I tried flashing TWRP once again in adb and whenever I reboot it in adb, it just got stuck on MI Logo. Now when I try to go back and restart device in normal mode, it will once again go back to PixelExperience. I guess whenever rebooting, the TWRP gets overwritten.. Please help me how do I get back to TWRP recovery permanently thanks
