I successfully updated to 10.5.9.IN21AA(Global) with TWRP and root intact without issues. Here's the steps I took:
  1. Removed lock screen security, just in case.
  2. Rebooted to TWRP, made a nandroid backup and rebooted phone.
  3. Opened Magisk Manager, disabled active modules and rebooted phone.
  4. Downloaded and installed update via OTA(DON'T REBOOT YET!!!).
  5. Opened Magisk Manager and installed TWRP with xXx's installer(DON'T REBOOT YET!).
  6. Navigated to Magisk Manager's main page to install Magisk - Install > Select Method > Install to Inactive Slot (After OTA). You'll be forced to reboot.
  7. After rebooting, reinstalled Magisk Manager.
  8. Open Magisk Manager, reinstall/reactivate modules and reboot.
  9. Enabled lock screen security.
  10. Done!
Hope this helps.

My transition from tmo 10.5.8 to Global did not go well. I think my persist is messed up and now my phone is messed up. Tried msm 4.0 but did not fix it. Tried to flash persist.img from fastboot but fastboot will not flash a critical partition. and yes, I backed up persist. Can this be done from twrp? Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Put your persist.img in the root of the sdcard and issue this dd command in a terminal to flash it:

dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist

You can do it in Android giving root rights to the terminal app typing (su) before the command or in twrp terminal, whatever you want, i personally did it in Android.

See this is something new for me... so you must be rooted obviously and their is a terminal app in android already or I have to d/l it? Thanks for your help...

Great, thank you...!!!

Hmmm, says it copied it but still no fingerprint, getting an error "Enrollment was not completed Fingerprint registration error, please try again" Also, my laptop is reporting my phone as a OnePlus 8 Pro and it is not the Pro version. What do you think could cause this? I did MSM 4.0 4 or 5 times now. Still no fix. Tmobile support had me do a hard reset and no help. They want me to send in so they can fix it. :(

Edit: So feeling pretty screwed now, since it didn't work, I went back to unbrick tool to bring it back to tmo 10.5.7 before sending it off to OP for repair. But this time, unbrick didn't work, went into qualcom crashdump mode and I cant seem to get it out. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Edit 2: Got it to boot into fastboot mode but don't want to unlock bootloader again, anyone got a tmo OS I can fastboot on to here?

Edit 3: Well, even tho it will go into fastboot mode, it won't any longer unlock the bootloader, Qualcom crashdump is all it will read. So I guess its over for me. I will send the new phone to OP and see what they can do with it. Other than that, I am done with rooting, etc... phones are getting too expensive. Not worth it. But if anyone knows how to get it out of crashdump, I would very appreciative for a remedy. Thanks

can try this thread https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/qualcomm-crashdump-mode-for-oneplus-6.1140365/

i reckon the steps should be relatively the same, "hold the power and volume up button for 8 seconds to force shutdown the phone"

Yah, thanks but didn't work, it is stuck in crashdump and won't boot into OS, unbrick software runs on it, but doesn't fix the problem as it still won't boot into OS. I can get it into fastboot mode but since unbrick locked it, I can do nothing with that cuz its locked. :(

Plug your phone into a computer make sure you have your ADB files up to date, adb reboot fastboot when you are in the bootloader type fastboot reboot fastboot. This will reboot to a menu that is exactly like recovery this is actually fastbootd here you can Flash your persist

Yes, got it flashed in Termux Terminal... but didnt help... now my phone won't boot at all, stuck in Qualcom CrashDump mode... and the bootloader is locked so I cant use any fastboot commands, msm 4.0 operates but phone does not boot after it finishes...although it managed to lock my bootloader.... screwed.

OEM Unlocking is not turned on in developer settings because msm set everything back to stock but won't boot into stock, if I could somehow get in or somehow turn on oem unlocking, might be back in business, but I sure don't know how to get there.

if you can boot into 'fastboot' mode just 'oem unlock' it from there
