What is the reason the official TWRP dont switch from 8 cores to 4 cores? There is no that big difference in writing/flashing speed. Using all 8 cores in twrp just makes problems in some cases that would be all gone otherwise when its configured like the (older) twrp image here: https://basketbuild.com/devs/osm0sis/osmods

I would like to see a swtich from 8 core to 4 core in TWRP on Nexus 6p and 5x. This would help much people with their issues and wont make problems for all other users.

Why would people that didn't have their cores **** out want to be stuck with a handicapped device when in recovery?

Or do you mean offering both options ?

I really meant using only the 4 cores in TWRP. What are your experiences with using 4 cores in TWRP? I dont see issues in speed or anything else using just 4 cores in TWRP. What are your experiences? Why did you need 8 cores when you are just writing/reading to the memory? The Write/Read speed in my case did not change. You can probably also go for just 2 cores and it wont really matter. What is in your opinion "handicapped" in such a case? Its a benefit for all. You only have to build one image and that works on all phones. Done.

Yes, as alternative you can build 2 images but thats not really usefull and the people wont really know what a "8 core" version is. 99% of the user out there dont even know that a Snapdragon 810 have 8 cores. They dont even know that they have a Snapdragon 810 inside. They just know "its a Nexus 6P". Some just read from the back "nexus". And they say "i have a nexus". If you ask them "what nexus?" they wont be able to explain that.

No, of course not and it was never the case. You configure/build your TWRP to use a amount of cores and you configure your Linux kernel to use a amount of cores. Thats all for the "using just 4 cores".
I agree with you. I noticed that when using the newer builds of twrp the phone gets extremely hot. Which is not good for anything. I mean a simple flash or a wipe and flash is fine. But if I try to make a backup. The phone practically glows red. I have to take the case off and put it on a ice pack.
It makes sense to me now that you point out the 8 cores running. And I also agree that 4 cores are more than sufficient to perform the operation s required. And the heat issue is doing more harm than good.

There is at least one known report where people broke their phone in TWRP mode because of that. The phone went into EDL mode because the protection (downclocking because of overheating, ...) does not work that great in TWRP.
It just makes really most sense to set TWRP on Nexus 6P and 5X to 4 cores. The Snapdragon 810 in those phones is known to be terrible at heat production and unstable big-cores. When you are in TWRP the least thing you need is unstable hardware or a overheating phone.

I actually had to put my phone in the freezer while making a backup in twrp. I got so nervous that it was going to blow the big cores because of how hot it was getting. Not to mention I just had a new battery put in. I actually don't even make full backups anymore. Just my efs really. Everything else is so easy now a days to restore especially with the addition of one drive. As long as I have a flash able zip on my phone of a known stable room I'm good. Small things like flashing a rom or wiping don't seem to make it overheat

When would the TWRP developers finally change the default image to 4 cores to stop all the issues? There is no need for 8 cores inside of TWRP and you have just issues when you have all 8 cores in TWRP enabled.
And why would they change it?? Many of 6p owners dont have issues with 8 cores, and why would they flash 4 core TWRP if all cores is working as it should??
