unlock bootloader first: google - unlock bootloader xiaomi, follow instructions
flash twrp - download from this thread, enter fastboot mode and flash twrp
transfer supersu to phone, boot to twrp recovery, flash supersu. no wiping required.
reboot and phone is rooted.

Somebody correct me if im wrong. thanks!

after i unlock bootloader and entering into fastboot mode, fastboot cannot identify my phone but adb can. anybody have the same problem?

I had this too... my problem was with old drivers conflicting. Got rid of any old ADB/Fastboot drivers from my system. Downloaded Minimal ADB/Fastboot and all worked fine after that.

From Device Manager and then did a search for ADB.exe in windows explorer and found a couple of rogue installs. I just deleted the files and seemed to do the trick.

Put phone is fastboot mode. Connect using usb. Device manager, theres a android fastboot Device. Deinstall after that, disconnect and connect usb again. Let Windows install Driver auto now. Now it works..
