Are there any (dis)advantages to either one?
I'm asking because i was under the impression that no to long ago GSI's weren't working to wel on a EMUI 9 vendor.

I have successfully installed the gsi, i did an factory reset, then on fastboot i erased system and then i wrote the gsi image to system, that's how that worked for me
now the problem is that i need to install gapps but the device won't boot into twrp with adb command and not with los'advanced reboot (volume up button get me to erecovery)
And the system partition is too small (2500 mb for me)

Great that you got the GSI installed, what exactly do you mean with won't boot to TWRP?
Maybe you should try installing TWRP again?

Yes, it's impossible mount system and resize system in TWRP and I think it's because of this change: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gsi-11-lineageos-18-x-gsi-all-archs.4205461/post-85449875

So I have installed arm64 vndklite version with fastboot , flashed TWRP (you need in TWRP mount system and resize system), flashed nikkgapps basic, then flashed stock recovery and finally factory reset in stock recovery. Everything works without problems. Vndklite is the key :)

    Download and Installation​

    * Download twrp recovery
    * Start your device in fastboot mode
    * Install the recovery using the following command:
    Code: 
    fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk [filename].img --> ex: fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_honor9_lite_0.1.img
    * Restart with this command:
    Code: 
    fastboot reboot
    * As soon as you execute the restart command,remove the USB cable and keep pressing Volume UP,so the device will boot to TWRP.This is to avoid that the device boot to OS,overwritting TWRP recovery.

    Features​

    Internal storage decryption = working
    MTP and OTG connection = working
    Backup&Restore = working

    Note: There are no sources for this yet,because is based on the work of @zxz0O0 ,from Honor 9.

    You are mixing things so you better stop and educate yourself a bit on how TWRP, Firmware Finder and Stock Roms work... before you do some damage.
    If you want to use Firmware Finder to install approved firmwares, then you don't have to install TWRP, you need to stay with stock,otherwise firmwares will not install.
    The other way is, like i already said, with HuRUpdater, which works with TWRP and doesn't require an approved firmware.
