It's on it's way, http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-external-link/twrp-version-2-8-7-0-released/

Edit, I have 2.8.7.1 on my n5 and 2.8.7.0 on my i727. The n9 with it's 64 bit processor is probable taking more time to develop.

Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
100% failure rate on the build server for us with the last attempt being three days ago - https://jenkins.twrp.me/

Unless they get around to us, we're not seeing a copy in the short term by the looks.
@Dees_Troy, any update on TWRP 2.8.7.0 / 2.8.7.1 for N9?
I think they might need a kernel patch to fix those errors.
2.8.7.0 is up on TWRP website for flounder.

Default TWRP password

I just flashed Nexus 9 M preview MPA44G and am trying to root but TWRP asks for a password. I've tried default_password and also the same with quotation marks to no avail. What am I doing wrong? I set my screen lock to password and tried that password as well. No luck. Anyone know what's up?

twrp does not support M yet

to root you will have to sideload or decrypt your storage

(sorry if this has been answered, but it's been a bit irksome)
Why is TWRP using the phone-style UI on a tablet? Or is there some option I missed to change it to tablet?

Hey everyone!

Cannot boot into TWRP for some reason on my Nexus 9. Running stock ROM, USBhost Fire and Ice kernel. Stock recovery works without a hiccup, but TWRP is just stuck at the bootlogo. Any guesses?

It worked yesterday, perfectly fine. I haven't made any changes to the system since yesterday, so I am out of guesses why this is happening now.

Tried:

1. fastboot erase recovery and flash twrp on top = failed
2. fastboot erase recovery and flash stock recovery = success
3. flashing twrp on top of solution 2 = fail

deleted TWRP folder with all the settings, still fails.
