While waiting for the M compatible version of TWRP to come out, I noticed TWRP backups using compression have tripled or quadrupled in time on the N9 since running M vs. L. I'm unencrypted and a backup with compression takes 35-40 minutes. (2.9 GB), while uncompressed takes about 10 minutes (5.76 GB). Looking in the recovery log file the only thing I found unusual was the line TW_INCLUDE_Crypto :=true (which I am not). By contrast the N6 takes about 7 minutes to backup a similar size image compressed. Average backup rate for files systems is 2 MB/sec for the N9 vs. 12 MB/sec on the N6. I don't know why this is but I thought it was important to note, and I haven't read of anyone else testing backup times. Next time you run a compressed backup report back and let's compare times.
3.50m compression 12MB/s
1.44m uncompressed 31MB/s

Hi and thanks for the reply, and ....well you certainly are smoking me in file system write speed. I do see you are backing up only one partition (data?) while I back up boot, data and system, but that doesn't explain the change in file write speed (for me) between L&M. I'm fairly certain it is not a formatting or partition error on my end. May I ask if you are running a modified version of TWRP for the N9, and if so, would you mind sharing your modded version? Cheers.

@Dees_Troy, TWRP Recovery is looking at the wrong folder for themes.

Currently it is looking at /data/media/TWRP/theme.

What it should be looking at: /data/media/0/TWRP/theme

On the Nexus 6, it is: /data/media/0/TWRP/theme

Why is the Nexus 9 different?

Something is wrong with my N9 tablet and need help please. All of a sudden, i can no longer access TWRP 2.8.7.1 on my 5.1.1 rooted N9.
I've used fastboot flash recovery twrp.img to flash TWRP again as I was worried it is correct and i have yet to succeed to access TWRP.
I', also trying to factory reset and my tablet isn't resetting. No matter how many times i click on the icon.

Any advice?
