Decryption

So what exactly are the merits of a decrypted device? Has anybody expirienced anything to be "better". Is there a way for me to check the decryption status afer flashing TWRP?

I didn't notice any difference. I'm back to an encrypted device. Go to setting, security to check encryption status. Oh, one thing I did notice is when I flashed back to stock encrypted I did not use fastboot -w. I now don't have to supply a pin in twrp. That's a plus

Sooo, tried to use TWRP Manager to flash TWRP Recovery from stock, failed, errored out crashed before even rebooting. Decided to flash through fastboot and now im in a TWRP recovery bootloop. /sigh Still encrypted (do have pattern "pin" lock) and it decrypts and updates partition but loops on reboot. And Elemental .07 kernel.

Edit: Got it revived by Flashing Elemental .08 in TWRP that I already had downloaded on the N9 and also wiping dalvik/cache.

Erased then flashed recovery via fastboot. Then reboot recovery. I get the little dead android saying no command. I press power and volume up and nothing happens. Can anyone tell me where I went wrong?
This was done after unlocking and a reboot.

Press power then vol up, then release power up. Should get you into the recovery

Maybe this may help

If you're still stuck be sure to post all input/output from terminal/cmd here
It's a funny coincidence you replied as I was reading your guide. The .img file is in the same folder I start the command line from. The output reads just like the picture in your guide

At this point I'm wondering if the recovery_fixed.img is supposed to look like stock/aosp and not like TWRP.

Feeling rather ignorant right now
Appreciate your help and I'll give it another go in the morning and post the output.

Many thanks

Where are the TWRP backup files?

I successfully backed up with the latest twrp. I went to find the files and they are no longer on the sd card. I found them on /data/media/0/TWRP. I want to backup the directory to the PC to use on another Nexus 9. Using a file explorer there is an entry on the sd card called TWRP with a question mark. Is this a change to how TWRP works? Thanks,

Steve

Edit - RE flashed TWRP and it is now working. I did learn that /data/media/0/TWRP. is the correct path for the Sd card. After the reflash files are now there.

everything looks good there
so its just the recovery you are flashing, im using the twrp from
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/volantis

but i havent tried the 'fixed' one yet to see if i need it
Very strange. I also flashed TWRP 2.8.2.1 with the same result. The only thing I've done since receiving the N9 was OEM unlock. No root, no ROM, just unlock. Feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Yes, something is indeed strange, you don't need root or anything to flash a new recovery just an unlocked bootloader

Try this
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img
Use either twrp image and it should auto boot you to it
