So I think I may have done things out of order. I first logged into android and enable developer options and checked enable oem unlock. Rebooted into fastboot and ran the oem unlock. Without rebooting, I ran the fastboot command to rewrite twrp ( i think was the mistake ). I rebooted and now I have no recovery. I then reflashed the 5.0.1 factory image. https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images . Still no default recovery or twrp. Any ideas on what I need to do.

edit posted in Q&A but hoping for more visibility here.

edit: I used this tutorial - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/general/tutorial-restore-nexus-9-to-stock-t2943120 to restore.
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Then use the volume rocker to scroll to recovery and power key to select
If it doesn't work post all input/output from terminal/cmd

Thanks for all the help. Yes going into hboot is what worked right after flashing the recovery. It seemed I had to keep doing this until I had the device rooted. I think those combination of things made it stick for some reason.

Just took the dive with 2.8.3.0 seeing that the name changed to flounder. Installed OK. TWRP start slow but there it is :D. Flashed supersu and now my LTE-model is rooted :).

Any news on touch recovery for the LTE model? I received my LTE model already. Its bootloader is unlocked and rooted. Need custom kernels in my life!!

Always worries me that there might be small differences to partitions or something of the like when you have two variants and you use something meant for the other. You're a brave soul my friend, but I'm glad it worked. Time to get root/TWRP/custom kernel on my LTE 9 ?
