I'm going to step out on a very, very, weak limb here.... Maybe "twrp" the word itself is a red flag within the phone........ Maybe, change the name of the file, then attempt a flash.

@tungkick Any advice you can share? If not on the bootloader, then root? Thanks.

You can try

fastboot boot recovery recovery.IMG

It should attempt to copy recovery.IMG to memory and boot it. Shouldn't override existing (hidden?) recovery on phone

Trust me guys as soon as I pulled my g5 out I didn't even set it up went straight to fast boot mode unlocked boot loader tried to flash got unknown command then went to the twrp help site. The guys there helped me try everything but changing the twrp img so if you guys want to try be my guest I don't think it will work but you guys can try. From what I got out of them yesterday our boot loader doesn't have the commands to flash anything ie. The unknown command error that pops up so unless lg just "forgot" to add them in and will in a later update I think were just going to either wait for an exploit either through sd card slot or something else then go from there.

So it's unlocked but LG broke fastboot to where it won't accept flashing anything? So...what can fastboot actually DO on this device then?

Is it possible that we need to put the phone into download mode or something similar instead?

So, is it reasonable to assume that we won't be getting root for quite a while?

Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
Not necessarily. If someone comes up with an exploit or LG and T-Mobile realise that the boot loader is unlocked but not usable because they borked it and they fix it its only a matter of time. If the recovery works I don't see why the systemless root wouldn't work as it has worked on many devices. Don't give up hope the battle is half fought.

One would assume that an OTA would possibly have to make use of the fastboot commands. Could the command simply have been changed to something else? So instead of fastboot flash recovery twrp.img it could be fastboot flash something twrp.img?

Is there a way to break down mmcblk0 and see what under there? I remember from the V10 that is where partitions like radio and recovery were listed.

Does it matter if the device was "unlocked" with fastboot oem unlock or the new fastboot flashing unlock? It seems that people who ran into this issue on the Nexus 6P used oem unlock instead of flashing unlock. Would relocking and then unlocking the other way fix it? Has anybody tried?

If nobody has I'm willing to do it. Will be a royal pain in the ass to setup my device again but I'll do it.

<.<

I did actually just because I have the time to restore right now (not a whole ton done anyways). It still fails with the error code. Very weird.

The phone is restoring my apps now lol
