I'll just go and try to haggle with the repair shop guy and see if I can get him to do it for cheaper. It's not that much money if we actually do get root after all is said and done.

I'm sure we all wouldn't mind throwing cash your way for your help. I know I wouldn't [emoji106]

My only big concern is whether a TOT made with this tool will be compatible with other H830s or kind of locked to a single device. I wouldn't want to start bricking people's phones left and right even if it works for me...

Also I think the tool can save individual partitions in a TOT format so I'll ask the guy to save a full TOT and one with only a recovery.img file. Also for those smarter than me (@autoprime or @jcase) is there any risk of tripping things like dm-verity if I do this? If you could please leave some input about this I'd really really appreciate it.

Waste of money, the tot format is pretty simple.
I haven't found any way online to create a TOT and didn't want to bother you since you have wanted to distance yourself from the LG community. With that thinking, I don't think anyone else has thought it was simple enough for us to pull off without additional help so I felt it was worth the money to me. What's a few dollars to be able to root the phone and open up the options for people to create great things with this great hardware?

Ok, here's my two cents guys. I would love root myself to tinker with kernels and such, but I don't see it happening till we have a actual KDZ software package... Why? Because without it, if someone goes a bit too far with their device and soft bricks it, it's as good as a real brick......

If we have a KDZ, we can always restore our device unless we hard brick it. I don't know about you guys, but if I bork my device (and I have soft bricked MANY devices over the years), I want to have it functional again...

SO, we should be patient, hope we can get a KDZ and then hopefully a root will follow... Right now, it's like being a trapeze artist without a safety net. Not safe and not smart. Period.
