If you're able to oem unlock via fastboot I honestly don't see why the same thing cannot be done

I didn't think Sprint could, they havent on previous models which is why I left them when I moved from the G3 to the G5. At&t, Verizon and Sprint are more locked down.

I believe that there's a way to force boot into fastboot and unlock

If you can't oem unlock then flashing a tot with a packed twrp b backed in won't work. It will be over written due to the lock. Another way needs to be found

There is always a way around it, our bootloader was never unlocked on the ls990 but we still had twrp and root thanks to codefire. Just don't know if the same method will work. For the g3, codefire was able to sign the recovery partitions to match lg. I dont know how the g4 was on sprint but if they used a similar tot method to get twrp and root then you may be in luck?
