Some people spent weeks/months working hard (for free) to get this out. You complain about spending 30-60 mins to root? Unbelievable, trust me no one is going to waste their time making it easier for you than it is now.
The working TWRP only TOT wasn't released for a reason, and it will stay that way.
Just be happy that the people took the time so you can enjoy a rooted LG G5.
Ungrateful Posts like this are the reason people hesitate to release anything.
I'm really starting to see their point.
I would really rephrase that to be honest here. "Ungrateful" ?? This was not an Ungrateful post. It was a piece of my mind, my opinion, what I'm going to do. There's simply no need for you to come point out every single thing and call me Ungrateful simply because I have said what's on my mind and what I wanted to do??! Criticism.....
It's so simple to just not reply to my post, why would you only if you are trying to insult someone... everyone is entitled to their own opinion and therefore, getting upset in situations like this is so ridiculous... I am not looking to argue or anything of the sort. I just saw your reply to my post and I had to make sure to reply back. Again, not looking to argue with you, I just wanted everyone to see why I said that.

I totally agree in that this fellow obviously has zero appreciation (and negative patience) for those who develop ways to root devices, develop ROM's, etc. For free to boot! I paid $25 voluntarily to the developer who figured out how to root the H830 (via the bounty thread) and was very happy to do so. I was glad that he took his time so those of us who hate ads on their phones and like to mod them to improve performance, their appearance, etc. can now do so.
Keep up the good work and please develop Cyanogenmod for the H830. Which that ROM has always been free as well.
You also seem to be good at criticising users whom you do not even know... zero patience and appreciation!? How could you say that, based on my post? Simply because I had to speak my mind and be honest... see there is no more freedom if one can't speak his mind. Accusations are very very serious, so I highly advise you rephrase certain words used here to be absolutely honest with you... Many people here paid and contributed.... Not just yourself... in comparison to every other device I've dealt with the G5 was the most difficult to root. I spoke my mind, I'm entitled to my own opinions and so I said what I wanted to with no intention of offending anyone. So my apologies if I have offend anyone, but there's simply no need to be rude here.

Hi guys I seem to have an issue that I just recently noticed. I have been working on a rom for sometime. Doing a lot of troubleshooting. Whenever I restore a twrp backup though it seems to be putting most of the data on my sd card. I have it set to store the backup on my sd. But it makes it difficult to retest because I usually don't have enough space to make a fresh backup even after deleting the old one. Thanks for help any of you can provide.

The link for the Verity disabler is down on the TOT thread.Ive requested that someone post new one if possible.I think that is the only piece of the puzzle Im missing now as Im getting the well known "unknown command" from Fastboot.
Thanks to everyone for figuring this mess out.I love this phone but I dont even want to "move in" to it yet until its rooted (since I know it can be rooted).

Im updated to filmic. 3.3 and up to magisk 13. With this magisk update I can finally pass a safety net check. However, for some reason, when I try to do a nandroid backup on twrp, it fails.

When I begin the backup It says 'updating partition details'
Then about 60 lines of RED errors relating to
/data/system/dropbox/system_server_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx
(after 20 or so lines of red text)
...done
full SELinux support is present
MTP Enabled
Updating partition details
(40 or so more red lines of text)
... done
Total number of partitions to back up: 8
Then it backs them up, Until I get one line in red letters again
createTarFork() process ended with ERROR:255
Backup Failed.Cleaning Backup Folder.

Ive googled quite a bit looking for this answer and Ive found nothing that satisfies my needs. Any help would be great.
My system is running great, I just cant back it up.
Any help would be awesome.

My apologies in advance if this is a dumb question - I have tried to find an answer, but no luck (or at least, I'm not seeing it). Thanks to work / Company Portal, my phone has to be encrypted (and is now), but it seems that TWRP cannot decrypt, even with PIN / password entered. Is that right? And is that specific to TWRP on this device?

Thanks!

You are correct, TWRP cannot decrypt the /data partition on this phone once encrypted.

I cannot answer your other question, on whether a different phone has TWRP decryption working.

I tried restoring a TWRP backup, but found out I couldn't get past the lockscreen because the PIN didn't work. Now I want to try removing the PIN files from /data/system, but I can't get into TWRP with Volume Down + Power button (there is no LG bootscreen on Oreo). Any suggestions?

I was doing tests after repairing the volume buttons, and to access the recovery so that it follows the same steps that you indicate, an exception that the LG logo will appear, when you press the buttons and the screen turns on it will be black , let go of the power button then quickly press it again, before the unlocked boot loader warning comes out.

When using TWRP to flash an upgrade TWRP image, is there anything required to avoid TWRP recovery being overwritten by stock recovery upon reboot?

Thanks

After installing updated TWRP image file, do not reboot, first you have to install no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip or (Magisk worked for me but read either file will work) install Magisk.zip through TWRP recovery before you boot up the phone. This gave me a big headache as well.

Yes, you can still enter recovery this way but it is very hard to do the button combination in time, you have to be very very fast.

Also, LG Logo does NOT appear anymore with unlocked bootloader but you are able to tell when dark screen turns on but is still black, you have a fraction of a second for the button combination (power + volume down, let go of power button for a fraction of a second only, and hold both buttons again till in recovery) and if you are seeing the unlocked bootloader warning, it means you are already too late, the button combination didn't work, remove and re-insert battery and try again.

It took me about 10 tries to enter recovery this way when i soft-bricked my G5. Once my phone could boot into OS, i used Magisk menu --> 'Modules', and 'reboot to recovery' from the 3 dots menu to enter recovery.
