Wasn't expecting to see this done by the same particular individual.
Holy poop!!! That is flipping awesome... @tungkick, I apologize, I don't really understand anything you say, but I do understand you gained root for Verizon... Congratulations! Hopefully you be receiving a healthy payday for your efforts. I'm not sure what the other models situations are, but you may be able to clean up in other versions threads... Good luck sir, and again, I'm sorry.

I updated to latest marshmellow tmobile update, it made the whole phone stock and locked it, unlocked bootloader, flashed the recovery then i went to type fastboot boot twrp.img, then i got returned with.

booting...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)

i rebooted the phone and prompted with error on screen saying can not check phone for corruption then continued to boot normally? anyone figure out how to get twrp on latest marshmellow + root?

Did you find out if this is possible? I just ran the update and my phone so obviously it's unrooted and on stock marshmallow now. Too nervous to try getting it set up before confirming someone else got it rooted without issues.

I think this thread is basically dead - look at post #648 for the link to the TWRP thread being updated/developed...
Thanks for this comment, just saw post 648 that it has been moved here!

android has a file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh when you boot up it overwrites teh recovery with stock, chances are its doing that.

boot into fastboot, flash it, then use

fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.0-h901.img

that will drop you into recovery (it takes like 30 seconds) form there you can do a syou wish, then click on reboot system and it will remove that file so youll have twrp always.
I dont mean to be a bother but can you tell me where the android system file is. I checked my phone and the sdk but still cant find this file.

will this version work on marshmallow

Got unlock/TWRP to work once, but it wont work again!

had previously used this method successfully a few weeks ago to unlock and flash TWRP. However, after trying CM12.1/CM13 and having GPS-related crashes, I decided to go back to a custom ROM based on stock. And in every ROM I tried, the Fingerprint/Security menu wouldn't work (so I couldn't install apps from outside Play Store). So I tried going back to CM.....................and the Security menu was broke there too! In all cases the Settings app crashed.

I decided to flash back to 100% stock might fix the issue. So I downloaded the latest MM firmware image and flashed it in Refurbish (full wipe) mode in LGUP. Afterwards everything works fine and all is fixed.

But now I want to unlock the bootloader again and install TWRP so I can root and install custom ROMs. The unlocking commands work fine. I have enabled USB debugging and OEM unlock just like the instructions say. I'm also using the same TWRP v3.0.0.0 that is listed in the OP. adb and fastboot see the device (finally) after installing the right drivers. I have issues when I get to:

fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.1-h901.img
fastboot boot twrp-2.8.7.1-h901.img

I replaced twrp-2.8.7.1-h901.img with twrp-3.0.0-0-h901.img, but otherwise typed everything exactly the same. I keep getting this (see attached picture, I can't post outside links or images yet).

The 2 things that stand out are the "FAILED (remote: unknown command)" and the attempt to download a boot.img after I instructed fastboot to boot into TWRP (which obviously failed because TWRP didn't flash, but I had to try anyway). I don't think the device is bricked because the stock ROM works 100%, but I won't settle for that. Coming from Samsungs, I'm just too used to being rooted/custom ROMmed/custom recovery/etc. This phone is less than a month old and has never been dropped or gotten wet. I haven't had any obvious issues aside from GPS not always working in CM, so I don't think the phone is defective. The only mods I've made are to buy a 200GB MicroSD, and a ZeroLemon high capacity battery/case.

Thanks for any help!

The MM update blocks fastboot commands. So for now you cant root until one of the Devs figures out how.

MM update removed fastboot capabilities on V10. LG has become hostile towards 3rd party development.

Confused.......

But I was already on MM when I followed this guide, and it worked. I can swear I had MM when I bought the phone.

If I can find a stock Lollipop image, can I then flash it and follow the instructions in this thread again?

Does anyone know where I can find an LP firmware file for the H901 (Tmobile)?

Thanks!
