to avoid futile tours,
phone model LM-G710EM with software 10b or 10q.
I would also just like to have root and be able to flash various mods from Magisk Manager. The maximum would be to have Custom ROM + TWRP + root.
Last night I was able to flash the "patched_boot_10b" file for my V10b software. Tested root with Root Checker and found that I have root. If I install Magisk Manager 7.x it gives me an error and tells me that the version is not compatible with versions earlier than 18. Then I go to download Magisk Manager version 5.8.3 and the app opens.
If I try to flash a zip it gives me an error in the extraction.
Some of you are able to do a guide with what you have to do in order to, at least flash the mods with Magisk.
Thank you
PS: after flashing TWRP, if I try to get into recovery, I get into stock recovery ... not even a trace of TWRP. When I flashed the "vendor.img" (1GB) file, the command prompt gave me an error.
The boot image around this forum for 10b contains an old version of magisk. Best upgrade to 10s oreo or Korean pie and use Lamemonster82's corresponding patched boot image with recent version of magisk.

Can you post the links of the last 2 files (korean pie + lamemonsters82's ...)?

[UNOFFICIAL] TWRP 3.2.1 for LM-G710EM ONLY

NOTE
There are 2 versions for this recovery, SEMI-PERSISTENT & PERSISTENT.

1. Semi-Persistent Recovery
[Works on stock rom and custom rom] Not permanent, requires command in order to boot and needs to reflash it every time you need it and then reflash stock boot.img after using it in order to avoid bootloop.
2. Persistent Recovery
[Works only on custom rom] Permanent, you can boot on it anytime without a command and doesn't need to reflash it and stock boot.img.

Flashing TWRP Recovery

Downloads:
[SEMI-PERSISTENT] TWRP 3.2.1
[PERSISTENT] TWRP 3.2.1

1. You need to be rooted first. Root Guide: Magisk
2. Flash TWRP image (Download link above) using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a pathtoimghere
and
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b pathtoimghere
Note: In this state, you will encounter bootloop when you restart your device and proceed to OS. So please, don't.
3. Boot to recovery using the button combination (VOLUME DOWN + POWER BUTTON).
4. Once you are booted in TWRP, you might notice that /date doesn't work. To fix it, you need to decrypt your phone.
For now, flash the vendor.img found here.
5. After step #4, Hit Wipe and Format Date on TWRP, type yes in the dialog, and then reboot to recovery (not system). TWRP will now be useful.
6. If you are on 10f or 10h stock rom download this TWRP then mount vendor and system, flash the zip through TWRP to enable semi-persistant.

I hope i didn't forgot anyone , if i did im sry , hit me up and i will add you here.
Man, sorry if I sound rude, but your 'tutorial' only leads to disaster. You may think I'm a newbee, but I'm not. I'm not an expert either, but I install custom firmwares to my mobile phones since Windows Mobile 5.0 era (yes before Anroid exists). So, maybe I'm becoming old.
I happens that you do-do seems to be missing A LOT of info.
And again, I'm sorry if anybody has already explained this on this thread (not easy to read 11 pages of comments), but I beg you to post this correctly:

1. You need to be rooted first. Root Guide: Magisk[/B]
I am rooted.

2. Flash TWRP image (Download link above) using the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot_a pathtoimghere
and
Code:
fastboot flash boot_b pathtoimghere
Note: In this state, you will encounter bootloop when you restart your device and proceed to OS. So please, don't.

Wait.... WHAT???!!! Where was I supposed to be? OS? Cable connected? If you say I shouldn't go to OS at the end, I assume I wouldn't be on OS at the beggining too, right?
So:
adb reboot-fastboot
or
power down then hold volume down while insert usb cable
Am I right?

3. Boot to recovery using the button combination (VOLUME DOWN + POWER BUTTON).

WHAT? If I must not go to OS, I'm still on bootloader. What does this combinations do in bootloader? I tried using this (without flashing anything) and it simply rebooted to OS, where you said I shouldn't go! What am I missing here?
Shouldn't I use 'fastboot boot "twrp.img"'?

I couldn't even try anything else as I am PRETTY SURE it would boot loop my phone on last step.
Could you post more details, please?
Oh and BTW, I'm with rooted v20b and I'm just trying to update v20c with OTA without reinstalling my entire phone.
And I do have magisk, but when I try the restore option, it says "stock backup does not exist".
So, if you or anybody could help me, would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

1. This tutorial is heavily outdated with outdated boot images and such.

2. This tutorial is meant for Oreo users. Now we have pie and different files. The recovery is no more universal for it to work on different software version either (20b, 20c etc)

3. To update through OTA you need to first install an unedited boot image 20b and then update. After that install 20c magisk patched boot image

Edit: you can ask more questions in the G7 telegram group too
