I'll have to go at a different time. The girl that was working there was completely baffled and said she couldn't do anything, to ship it out to Samsung. I went there hoping they would do just that...flash back to stock.
Sorry buddy. Fingers still crossed for you. Hang in there - I'm sure it will fixed once this iPhone madness is over back at Best Buy.:good:

Just to confirm I gave myself a nice brick:

Installed and ran the apk. Set up rom slot 1. Mis-tapped and turned off phone before installing kernel. Now I get the classic frozen splash screen and nothing else. Tried ODIN to install stock firmware, but I think I've partitioned and the ODIN install fails. There's no recovery, just goes into Downloading.

Just want to make sure before I head to the AT&T store and beg for mercy.
:/ This really shouldn't happen.

From the sound of it, you did everything ok. Even rebooting w/ the phone on a virtual rom-slot that doesn't have anything flashed to it, is ok.

You should still see the safestrap splash screen come up. Where you can re-enter recovery and complete the ROM flash.

What ROM did you flash to slot 1? There may be something else at work here, and I would hate for more to be in your situation.

There *is* one current issue that would cause a brick: While the "stock" romslot is active, Safestrap does not block access to the boot partition. If you flash a ROM w/ a boot.img on it, then Safestrap will try and flash it. (Unlike on rom-slots where access to the boot partition is blocked silently). Normally when this happens, you'll see the "unauthorized" screen and it's fairly obvious what happened. This will be fixed in the next version. Regardless of whether stock rom or a rom-slot is active in Safestrap all access to the boot partition will be silently blocked.

Best to avoid flashing to stock entirely at this point.

Im not hash, but i can help.

Rule #2 is explaining that if you are on mf3 and try to flash a rom to the stock slot, you will most likely brick your phone. If that happens, your only chance to recover is by taking it to best buy, if there is one near you, to have it completely flashed back to stock. There is no odin mf3 flashable for you to do it yourself at home like verizon has for me7.

I dont think the wifi ongoing notification applies to At&t.
Ah, that makes sense. I was reading warning #2 as don't install the stock ROM. Actually it means don't flash to the stock slot. Thanks!

So what is this Samsung smart that the Samsung counter can do? Is this something that would help us if we could get a hold of it? I may have a way if this is something that could help.

Anything to get this thing ready to handle my flashaholism.

Wow, this is awesome! So, I first tried to install CM 10.1.3, with no luck at all... When I rebooted, just got a blank screen. Nothing seemed to happen. I then flashed the GPE that others linked to in this thread, and it worked fine! I would, however, love to get CM 10.1 running. Anyone have suggestions?

CM & AOKP are based off AOSP. Unfortunately, you can't get CM running with safestrap as it only supports touchwiz roms at the moment due to the kernel. We're hoping, AOSP based roms can be installed via safestrap for S4 in the near future :)

Thanks! A re-read of this and other threads, and I now understand that. GPE isn't too bad, though! So, the only practical limitation to this option at this time seems to be storage space. Am I right?

Hello,

I flashed the GEP rom to Rom Slot 1 and now I am getting an error that says Kernel Fail; System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help. There is a yellow triangle.

I followed the instructions, but now have a hosed phone unless I can somehow restore the backup of my stock rom.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks for your efforts.
Try to flash a stock kernel.. I use the stock kernel link in the golden eye thread to solve that sort of issue with the i9505 omega rom

FYI - if you brick your phone, but can still get to download mode, and you don't have "Custom" on the boot up splash... you can take your GS4 to any Best-Buy that has the "Samsung Experience Center", and they can reflash the stock OS back on to your bricked phone and get you running again! I did it this morning after accidentally formatting slot 1. The service is totally free! They wiped and reflashed it back to full factory (no root) AT&T MF3! Samsung to the rescue!

...and did I say it was totally free? :good:
