I dont want to bury this in my other post.

Has anyone managed to update the box firmware via the recovery console (USB keyboard alt prnt scn i method)..

My box is stuck in a loop of old firmware that insists on an update before it will boot and outside the USA where they wont give an update to. Catch 22.

To my knowledge, ADB is disabled in stock recovery. And furthermore, USB peripheral mode is disabled in the kernel. Therefore I know of know way to do anything useful with stock recovery.

I could VPN with my PC..

How can I set up a VPN with only a box that wont boot and a dumb router ??
If your PC has two network connections (e.g., wifi and ethernet), you can connect to the internet via VPN with one connection interface, and set the other to share your PC's connection and connect the Fire TV. For example, setup a VPN connection via Wifi on your PC, then connect the Fire TV to your PC via ethernet, and set your PC to share your wifi connection over its ethernet port.
