i tried to flash the TWRP of this 1º page trhinking that there is a new version that fix this. now my phone have the main memory encripted and locked. i cant access my phone in any way. So i suppose that i have lost all the data and if i dont find a solution to decript the main partition, i also have lost my phone. T_T

Follow this guide after booting into fastboot from 2nd step ( do not use the command " fastboot -w " it will erase your data )to the 6th step after this you will be able to boot into twrp it will not ask for any pin or password then just go to mount and check if MTP is enabled in it if it is not enabled then enable it and connect your phone with pc by this method you will be able to get your files back from your phone's internal memory. ( I also got stuck like you but by this method I got my phone's data imported out so try this method)

hi. thanks for the answer.
On Step 5 (5. It's TWRP time!! Download TWRP (both boot.img and permanent zip) by Jackeagle from here.) there is no "permanent.zip" anymore. And i already downloaded and flashed latest TWRP from that post.
On Step 7 (7. Click on WIPE > ADVANCED WIPE, and choose System, Dalvik (Cache) and Data. ). It say to choose "Data" wich will erase all data from my phone. So i cant do this.
On step 8 ( 8. Flash q_dfe.zip using twrp. ) i have no idea what is that for and there is no explanation.

So thank you, but i cant follow that guide.
I think there is a bug with this TWRP because i formated my phone using erase data 3 times. And after installing my rom, when i reboot on recovery, even entering the correct pin or patron, it still not decrypt correctly the main memory. Is there another TWRP version that work correctly? i have like 10 apps that doesnt work correctly because i cant install magisk because TWRP cant acces my main memory for not being able to decrypt.

Flashing q_dfe.zip will stop the force encryption of your data and wiping data from twrp will only wipe your settings, contacts, etc except the files in your internal memory and to get your internal memory data back just flash stock rom back and don't boot into it just go back to fastboot mode and flash q_vbmeta.img then change slots and then flash twrp after this you will be able to boot into twrp without any problem and don't forget to flash q_dfe.zip then just connect your phone to pc while in twrp (MTP must enabled) then your phone will show up on your pc

Flash dfe via twrp (when it asks for pattern, choose cancel to go into twrp). You can access the zip via memory card or via adb sideload using pc. After that, go into fastboot and type fastboot -w in the command line.

TWRP installation

I have followed the TWRP installation tutorial as it says and I have not succeeded. I am trying to install with version UL-Z01R-WW-100.10.107.70-user. Is it possible with this version?

Thank you.

Hey Guys!
TWRP-3.3.1-12 for Asus Zenfone 5z is UP.
Download : TWRP Recovery Image for Zenfone 5z(ZS620KL) by jackeagle
TWRP Recovery Installer zip for Zenfone 5z(ZS620KL) by jackeagle

Steps to install : Refer Post #2
Changelog : Refer Post #3

Enjoy!

Important Notes:
1. Now you can flash both custom roms and zenui via same twrp, so no need to flash fbrom to go to zenui.
2. To use this, flash the provided zip inside existing twrp and reboot to recovery. The rom flashing process remains the same.
3. Old custom roms and kernels can't be flashed on this. Wait for newer versions to use this twrp. If you want to use old version of a rom/kernel, use old twrp.

I have flashed it to Pie, I have updated to UL-Z01R-WW-100.10.107.46-user and also to UL-Z01R-WW-100.10.107.70-user and I have followed the steps rigorously, I have even downloaded the necessary files again , but nothing, does not install.
By mistake, I didn't change partitions, I installed TWRP in System Slot and it started TWRP but it didn't start system.
There is no way, it doesn't work.

How To Install TWRP Recovery On Asus Zenfone 5z (ZS620KL)

Prerequisites: Unlocked bootloader (Refer to Asus Documentation on Unlocking Bootloader for further information)

Step 1:
Download TWRP Recovery onto your PC. Make sure you check the md5 to verify its integrity (where possible).

Step 2:
Place the file in your fastboot folder (this is where fastboot.exe is located on your PC).
Power off your phone then boot into the bootloader (power + volume up).

Step 3:
Check Active Slot in fastboot. This is very important and if its showing "a" you have to switch to slot "b" and vice versa.
To switch active slot using following command

Code:
    fastboot --set-active= <a/b>
then reboot to bootloader again to check if active slot is changed or not using following command

Code:
    fastboot reboot bootloader

Step 4:
Flash TWRP Recovery using following command

Code:
    fastboot flash boot boot.img

Step 5:
Press Volume keys and select Reboot to Recovery and Press and Hold Power button to reboot to recovery.
You will be successfully rebooted to TWRP Recovery! :)
Enjoy!

Warning: DO NOT SWITCH SLOTS USING TWRP SETTINGS FOR NOW! USE FASTBOOT METHOD ITSELF ELSE YOU WONT BE ABLE TO BOOT STOCK!
DO NOT FLASH PERMANENT TWRP ZIP ON STOCK KERNEL. IT WILL CAUSE TOUCH ISSUES DUE TO KERNEL DRIVERS.

I have followed the tutorial step by step several times, it doesn't work

Guys, what the kernel should I set to flash permanent TWRP? I have stock firmware with root. The smartphone is unlocked.

Hello, guys! I have Android 9 stock on my Zenfone 5z, release 88. I can also flash 72, 98, 111 whatever, but i prefer Android 9. I flashed jackeagle's TWRP to inactive slot but phone couldn't boot into recovery. It just reboots. Active slot system boots fine as usual. I tried TWRP versions of 22nd february and 29 february, still just rebooting. What should I do?
Edit: What I try to achieve is Disable Forced Encryption and to do TWRP backup of active slot system.

Not able to boot into twrp. I followed the instructions exactly as given in this post but after flashing the boot.img for twrp I keep on getting bootloop. I have tried flashing it into both slots but still not getting into twrp. Only able to get into fastboot mode after flashing twrp image. Please help, I have to install a custom ROM in my device but I am not able to find a working twrp image for my device.

Both of you should flash vbmeta on the slot you're trying to boot twrp into. Flash Pie vbmeta on P slot vendor and Q vbmeta on Q slot.

Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) is an open-source software custom recovery image for Android-based devices. It provides a touchscreen-enabled interface that allows users to install third-party firmware and back up the current system, functions often unsupported by stock recovery images. It is, therefore, often installed when rooting Android devices, although it isn't dependent on a device being rooted to be installed.

Notes for themers: In addition to the udpated theme, we have introduced a theme version variable to the TWRP theme system. If the theme version does not match the version that TWRP expects, TWRP will reject the custom theme and load its stock theme. This change will ensure that people who update TWRP without updating their theme will still have a workable recovery. We have removed libjpeg support. The stock theme was only using a jpeg image for the splash / curtain. This change means that any custom themes will no longer be able to use jpeg images. It also means that tools used to repack recovery images with a different curtain / splash will need to be updated to use the new method.

Version number notes: For a while we’ve been using a 4 digit version number and reserved the 4th digit for device-specific updates. For instance, we find and fix a device-specific issue like decryption of data on Nexus 5, we would release that as a 2.8.7.1. After a while, some people would start asking where 2.8.7.1 was for other devices. So, going forward we have decided to change the numbering scheme to 3.0.0-2, etc. Our hope is that this version numbering scheme will more clearly identify that the 4th digit does not indicate a version change for the code base.

We need your help! The bulk of TWRP work is done by 3 people on a volunteer basis. We have pushed most of our device files to our github and we have a gerrit instance. If you have the ability, please help us maintain our official devices and/or add your device to our official device list. Thanks in advance!

    Flashing TWRP:
    - Bootloader needs to be unlocked
    - You need latest adb and fastboot
    - Boot into bootloader
    - Check the current active slot, change the slot to the other slot (if current active slot is = a then use b. If b, then use a)
    - Switch slot by using fastboot set_active <a or b>
    - Use fastboot reboot bootloader to check if right slot is selected.
    - Flash the boot image by using fastboot flash boot boot.img
    - Select recovery from bootloader

Note : Do not flash recovery to the slot where Stock Rom exists its not yet completely verified if you will be able to boot to stock when recovery is flashed.
Hence is why it is recommended in above steps to change slots so that stock remains unaltered.

    What is working:
    - Decryption of Data
    - ADB
    - Screen brightness settings
    - Vibration on touch
    - Correct screenshot color
    - Active slot switching from TWRP
    - MTP

Hi, thanks for recovery will you also try to port lineage or some other custom rom? We really need working device tree

There are plans for Lineage Development but it all depends on time availability! But yes its in process :)

The 5z turns out to be a headache to develop for.

Once the problems are solved that we are facing, custom roms will eventually come.

Just hope that Asus will release a 9.0 ROM soon.
