I highly recommend using the newest Official PBRP build which I have created a thread for instead of these TWRP builds. PBRP is based on TWRP with added features such as SU and Magisk built into the PBRP zip file once flashed. It supports 32 and 64 bit builds, is based on my latest Pie CAF based kernel on top of the LG Q6 stock Oreo kernel for the latest changes from LG. Enjoy :)

This worked fine for me with the december 2018 software version (my phone found no further updates past this).
The only small (unrelated) problem I had was when the phone booted to fastboot mode, windows couldn't recognize it - I checked device manager and saw that the fastboot driver was not installed (different driver than the regular lg mobile drivers). Once I installed the fastboot driver, windows saw the phone in fastboot mode and I easily flashed twrp. Thanks!

WARNING: The stock boot image has dm-verity, which prevents you from booting if you swipe to enable system modifications!
SOLUTION:
Flash a root such as SuperSU or phh-superuser. You can also flash no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip.

Supported Models :
TP260 & MP260

Prerequisites :
YOUR BOOTLOADER MUST BE UNLOCKED

-If you have problems with the device drivers installed , you will need to install lg bridge, you can download it from here:
http://tool.lime.gdms.lge.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=PWZO7A26B9UW

How to flash Twrp:
BOOT INTO FASTBOOT MODE:
With your phone off, connect your usb cable to your phone while holding VOLUME DOWN to boot into fastboot mode or just type [adb reboot bootloader] in the adb terminal

ONCE YOU ARE IN FASTBOOT MODE:
Open a command prompt and type "fastboot flash recovery <path_to_recovery.img>” without the quotation marks.
Example: fastboot flash recovery C:/Users/John/Desktop/recovery.img
[don't forget to extract the downloaded recovery zip to get the recovery.img]

WHEN THE FLASH COMPLETES: (Takes about 2 seconds)
On your phone, unplug the usb cable and POWER IT OFF BY PULLING OUT THE BATTERY and putting it back in.

BOOT INTO RECOVERY MODE FOR THE FIRST TIME
HOLD VOLUME DOWN + POWER until you see the LG logo and then temporarily release the POWER button, immediately pressing and holding it back down until you see the white prompt [factory reset] screen. You will NEVER release the volume down button in this process!

Use the hard keys to select "YES" and then "YES" again to boot into TWRP

How to Disable encryption and flash super su [Install Root]:

EDIT: So i messed up and apparently uploaded the 32bit TWRP by mistake and haven't built a bootable 64bit twrp in a while. I've been debugging building a 64bit TWRP based on an Oreo kernel.
I have uploaded RedWolf recovery which supports both 32bit and 64bit I'm sure of it this time. Sorry for the inconvenience and being a real d!^k to anyone who brought up having error 255 when flashing 64 bit builds in TWRP. This redwolf recovery will resolve such issues.
I can't find the 64 bit twrp or the redwolf recovery... Anyone have any links or can point me in the right direction?

Any reason/advantage to use this type of root as opposed to magisk? Btw I am using PBRP recovery, thanks for the tip its great!
Do you mean chainfire's SU as noted on the OP? Not at all. In fact I'd suggest to only use Magisk at this point. It works just fine with no issues. I think at the time magisk had some issues and wasn't as stable as SU but that's no longer the case. PBRP has options to install either, though you'll want to download the latest Magisk zip and manually flash that since they're up to version 20.1 now.
