Thanks for the help and yeah I'm running the stock ROM:)

---------- Post added at 10:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:05 PM ----------

Actually the post you linked doesn't include the bootloader unlocking instructions and on the next page someone says it's not needed but I assume I have to do it with the standard command. Also will this wipe everything because my plan was to install TWRP and back up everything before continuing

Quoted from the link I sent you:
"3. Enable OEM unlock (Settings> Developer> Unlock OEM)"

I agree, it's not very clear, but they mean the bootloader by this. There should be an option called "Unlock OEM" or "Unlock Bootloader", I can't remember which one exactly, but you have to check that one.

And yes, the wipe option in TWRP will wipe everything.
I recommend using "Advanced Wipe", then check everything except SD-Card and USB-OTG.

Before you wipe everything however you can make a backup with a build-in tool in TWRP.

Here you can read how it works: https://www.howtogeek.com/240582/how-to-back-up-and-restore-your-android-phone-with-twrp/

Good luck!

enable oem unlock in developer settings. reboot to bootloader.
then open fastboot and run
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
your data will be wiped.
place twrp img into adb fastboot folder and run
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <twrp image name>

Hello,
I have tried everything on the in the forum, but still can't flash TWRP recovery on my phone. The phone is rooted and if i do it through the app that is on the google play store, booting in to recovery gives only black screen and can't do anything else. The only way is to take out the battery. If i try to do it through the abd fastboot option it gives me that fastboot is locked and when i try to unlock oem it says it is not allowed.
Also i have tried it with a a6020a40 stock rom ( i can flash TWRP recovery), but it is for dual sim card phones and my phone has only one sim card so i have no signal (radio turned off).
Thanks in advance.

What model and hw number do you have?
I have a41 and had the same thing.
If you have an SD415 then go to K5 (non-plus) forum and find the tutorial i made for locked bootloaders.
If you've got an SD616 then you're out of luck. Only thing you've got is a vibeui marshmallow port (again, by me) for locked BLs.

Ok i did some googling about that and it is just to much for me to understand, just going to stick with the stock rom.
Yes, that's over me too.

Know what, someone did flash wrong bootloader file and hardbricked his phone. He sent it to repair, and those repairmen replaced his mobo. the phone was sent to service with SD616, and returned with SD415. Then he unlocked the BL.

Not tryna saying to do that or to give false hopes, but what's happened is real afaik.

That one way to do it, but i also read on the lenovo forums that you can ask your services provider to unlock fastboot if they would like, or ask lenovo to send you some code to unlock the oem. I don't like my services provider (not the smartest people, at least where i am), and it could be a hole process, i don't feel like asking them.

@333vasc, you know what?
Go to a file explorer and see what is the TWRP img file size. a few kb right? because you surely had downloaded it from a common browser.
That is what you flashed. A corrupt file.
SAME happened to me a few moments ago, trying to update to the latest version.
I flashed and got an endless lenovo logo.

Solution: Download the file with a download manager, like ADM, the one what I use.
Final img size should be around 15 MB.
Flash it and enjoy the life.

The TWRP file is 15mb. Using qfli i installed another rom, not for my phone but a similar and it worked on that, TWRP recovery worked. The problem whit that was that the rom was for a dual sim phone, and my phone is singal sim so i couldn't get any services.

A6020a41 devices have bootloader unlock bug, unlike other variants. European phones with SD415 are identical to Indian a40 sd415 so flashing their firmware works. Since there is no K5 phones with single sim, 720 screen and sd616 soc except a41, there is no firmware to flash to unlock it properly.
@333vasc you have a41, right? I hope I'm not mistaken.

Yes that's the specifications for my phone, a european version K5, single sim, sd616 and a41 firmware. Thank you for taking the time to explain this.

Steps to Install TWRP and make root in the K5 / K5 plus (for noobs)

    TWRP:
    1. Activate the Developer options (Settings> About phone> Device Information> to tap 7 times in Build number)
    2. Enable USB debugging (Settings> Developer> USB Debugging)
    3. Enable OEM unlock (Settings> Developer> Unlock OEM)
    4. Connect the phone with the USB cable to the computer
    5. Install the drivers that come on the CD cell partition.
    6. Install "Minimal adb and FlashBoot" (if not already installed).
    7. Download the TWRP recovery created by @Shreps, and copy it to the folder where abd is installed.
    8. Run the Minimal adb and FlashBoot program or open the command line in the folder where the abd installed.
    9. Run the command "adb devices" to confirm the connection. If you have never done before in this cell, the cell must confirm the adb connection.
    10. When the adb confirm the connection, run the "adb reboot bootloader" Fastboot command to enable the functionality.
    11. If you want a temporary recovery run the "fastboot boot TWRP-k5-3.0.2-r1_shreps.img" command. If you want to permanently run the "fastboot flash recovery TWRP-k5-3.0.2-r1_shreps.img" command.
    12. You can now use the TWRP recovery in the K5 / K5 plus!

    root:
    1. Download the ZIP file SuperSU v2.46 and save it in the micro SD card.
    2. Restart the phone in recovery mode: Turn off the phone, then turn it on while pressing the volume up button. a screen appears with various options and choose "recovery". When opening the recovery, select Install and locate the file you downloaded just now.
    3. Confirm execution flashing, restart the phone and voila!

    Root & Tutorials

    ROOT:
Flashing SuperSU ZIP v2.46 with TWRP is working fine to get Root on your device.

[TUTO] Steps to Install TWRP and make root in the K5 / K5 plus (for noobs) thx to @samuro625

    Combo Key:
To reboot in Recovery with hardware keys:
    - Power off your device
    - Press and hold Vol+ + Vol- + Power until TWRP boots.

    TWRP and Internal Memory:
The Lenovo ROM mounts internal memory directly from "/data/media".
But on TWRP, it uses the "emulated" mount option, meaning internal memory is mounted as "/data/media/0". It's also true for custom ROMs which are using the same built Kernel as TWRP.
    That means:
    - Every files generated by TWRP (like backups) are visible in the "0" directory when you're in OS Mode
    - If you need to see files from your OS Internal Memory, you can open and browse manually "/data/media" or just simply connect your USB and copy files to your phone, TWRP will put them in the accessible Internal Memory (ie /data/media/0) and your files will be directly visible.
