Thanks for your suggestion...

Easiest method is to simply flash the TWRP you want from whatever TWRP you have installed. Use the flash image (recovery) option to flash.
My device is not rooted, I don't think I'll be able to do that without root. I do not get the option that says 'Select a file to flash..' in the official TWRP App. It's very difficult getting reliable (working) information on rooting and installing recovery and custom ROMS for the SM-T813. Odin, jOdin and Heimdall all seem to not work for me. My device is still vanilla, unmodified in any way :(

How to Install TWRP, LineageOS 16.0 and Root Samsung Tab S2 9.7 (2016) SM-T813

How to Install TWRP, LineageOS 16.0 and Root Samsung Tab S2 9.7 (2016) SM-T813

Preparation:
1. Fresh install of Windows 7 x64 with all the correct chipset and other drivers installed. (I tried this in Windows 10 x64 and Centos 8.0 Linux and FWUL Linux v4.0 and all 3 failed for me, so ONLY a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 worked for me).

2. Install Samsung Drivers on the Windows 7 x64 PC (Samsung-Usb-Driver-v1.5.63.0).

3. Download Odin (Odin3 v3.13.1).

4. Copy your LineageOS ROM (lineage-16.0 nightly.zip), TWRP Recovery (twrp-3.3.1-0-gts210vewifi.img.tar and also twrp-3.3.1-BETA07-gts210vewifi.img by Akipe from XDA-Developers) and Magisk (Magisk-v20.1.zip and also MagiskManager-v7.4.0.apk) and GAPPS (MindTheGapps-9.0.0-arm64-20190615_031441.zip) files on a micro SD card.

Actual installation of TWRP, LineageOS 16.0 and Rooting using Magisk:
1. Connect the USB cable to the PC ONLY first. Then on the tablet go into Download mode by first switching off the tablet, then when off, press Power, Volume UP and Home buttons. Then you will have to press the volume up key to accept the warning. When it says 'Downloading', THEN connect the USB cable into the tablet.

2. Flash TWRP recovery using Odin (Odin3 v3.13.1). Make sure to select 'AP' and choose the TWRP image (twrp-3.3.1-0-gts210vewifi.img.tar), and in options, do NOT select 'Auto Reboot', instead ONLY select 'F.Reset Time' Click on 'Start', to start flashing and read the log until it says 'success'. Once done installing successfully, disconnect the USB cable, DO NOT reboot back into System

3. After TWRP flashing is finished in Odin, DO NOT reboot back into System - Press Power, Volume DOWN and Home buttons, when the screen goes black, then immediately change to Power, Volume UP and Home, then it will go into TWRP Recovery again.

4. Make sure to go to Wipe, Advanced Wipe and wipe ALL partitions (EXCEPT micro SD and USB OTG) for a clean install, but ALSO go back to wipe the '/Data' partition to F2FS by going into 'Advance Wipe' and selecting 'Data', then say 'Change File System', then select F2FS. If you don't format to F2FS, you will keep getting a Failed to mount '/Data' error and the tablet will go into a reboot loop to reset the encryption because it cannot mount '/Data'. This is important.

5. After wiping all the partitions, Reboot back into recovery (DO NOT reboot back into system yet) go back to TWRP home screen and select 'Install' then 'Select Storage' and select the micro SD, then select the other TWRP file by Akipe (twrp-3.3.1-BETA07-gts210vewifi.img) this has some improvements as mentioned earlier in this post by Akipe himself (Thanks Akipe :D). Then again reboot back into recovery (NOT System) and it should be 'twrp-3.3.1-BETA07-Akipe'.

6. When In recovery again select 'Install' then 'Select Storage' and select the micro SD, then select first the 'lineage-16.0 nightly.zip' then add 'Magisk-v20.1.zip' then flash. This should flash successfully, if there are no ERRORS, you can reboot back into the system and continue to set up the tablet. If there are errors about 'Failed to mount '/Data'' then you need to repeat step 4 above making sure 'Data' partition is formatted to F2FS.

7. If LineageOS boots up successfully, Reboot back into recovery and 'Install', 'Select Storage' then select the Gapps file (MindTheGapps-9.0.0-arm64-20190615_031441.zip) and flash it, then reboot back into the System.

8. You should be OK to start using Google Play to install the apps you need. Also while in LineageOS you can access the micro SD and install MagiskManager-v7.4.0.apk and don't forget to install stericsson busybox to xbin (from Google Play)

I Hope that helps someone as I had a lot of frustrations trying to figure this out as nothing was working for me, with all the guides that are on the internet. All the best! :D

Can someone help me to determine which SM-T813 do I have? The serial number is R52K3111SGF, when I register that at Samsung it yields Model Number SM-T813NZKSXAR. However I don't know which TWRP I should install: "Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 2015 (Wi-Fi) (gts210wifi)" or "Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 WiFi (2016) (gts210vewifi)". Furthermore I don't know which ROM I need to get or where can I get the latest ROM.

I live in the US and sites I visited offered Turkish and all other ROMs except US. This is a wifi model so not sure if the "Carrier" matters or relevant at all thought. The device does not boot, but I can get it to download mode. I want to flash the TWRP and if it doesn't boot after that then a ROM as well. I just want to get it to work. Thanks!

You can get a rom for your tablet in this subforum. It mixes the 2015 and 2016 variants because they are both the Tab S2, just different generations.

Your tablet is the gts210vewifi. Flash the twrp and roms that correspond to that. You don't need to concern yourself with any carrier because your tablet is a wifi-only variant, it has no SIM card slot.

Boot into Download mode and flash the latest twrp .tar file from TeamWin's official site, using Odin if you have Windows, or Heimdall if you have Linux.

Thanks, but why is this necessary? Is the whole thing published untested on the TWRP site?
Actually, I was mistaken in my explanation. TeamWin's build servers use the latest source branch that is able to be built. Because the official Nougat branch fails due to the forced HW encryption, it refers back to the Marshmallow branch, which builds fine. This is where the official build cones from.

However, this branch suffers from bugs of its own, such as no usb access while in twrp, which does not affect the Nougat branch.

My single modification to the Nougat branch is the removal of the forced HW encryption, which allows it to build as expected. I designate this change with the "-1" version number at the end.

Hello, your 3.4.0 version also isn't able to decrypt /data. It cannot find the encryption footer. What's wrong with my device?

I tried the official TWRP 3.4 and what a train wreck. I dont encrypt/decrypt anything but I made a back with android 9 pie aosip rom and tried lineage 17.1 to see how it works. So far pretty good but since the tablet is my dads I make sure hes on a stable rom without problems. SO I wiped and tried restoring backup I made of Pie and it completes and says NO Os do you still want to reboot? So I reflashed the AOSIP zip on top of the data like I do on my Nexus 6 and it works but when you load up the rom its nothing but problems everything is crashing and play store keeps stopping. I had to reinstall 3.3.1 and restore from that which worked like normal. I dont know what is wrong with TWRP 3.4 its all messed up. I didnt see this one until today but Im sure theres bugs .

Have your tried your TWRP 3.4.0.1? I ask because the official is a disature for this tablet right now. Someone needs to try to backup and restore their tablet with it.

Perhaps TeamWin released 3.4 too recklessly. I expect there to be a 3.4.1 soon enough if these bugs keep adding up across a number of devices, but I have no definitive information about future TWRP versions.

I downloaded a ROM and want to flash it with ODIN, but the contents are several files and I don't know how to assign those to the 5 options:

How do I use this with ODIN?

I have a little question.

I followed the guide from this subject https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s2/development/twrp-3-0-2-1-galaxy-tab-s22016-sm-t713-t3390627

I managed to flash the latest TWRP with Odin. But twrp won't flash the "boot image file" provided in the linked topic. Then I flashed magisk and everything seemed OK. The tablet is rooted (smt-813) and I successfully created a backup.

My question is the following. Can I install a custom ROM like LOS without any risk of brick ?

Thanks in advance.

Anytime you introduce new software or ROM there is the risk of bricking. As long as you can get into recovery (TWRP) or bootloader (ODIN) it can be fixed. This is why you want to create backups! I've flipped back and forth between OEM and LINEAGEOS several times without issue. Disabling encryption also IMO reduces the risk of problems.

The twrp 3.3.1-beta 7 by akipe android 9 branch?
-or- twrp 3.4.0-1 by ripee android 7.1 branch
