Sounds like you have stock recovery still, I assumed that since you were in this twrp thread that you at least had twrp recovery installed....silly me!! If that's the case you need to start with step 1 installing a custom recovery. And you really should create a new thread over in general help and trouble shooting, that is, after you read up on installing a recovery.
I don't manage to install any recovery, i posted about my problem here :

FYI, I installed r#3 and TWRP shows 2.6.0.0 instead of the titled 2.5.0.0

No big deal it works fine just a different version.

Teamwin recovery through ODIN passed but still showing custom recovery

Flashed teamwin recovery r#3 on SM-T311 through ODIN and it passed. But when i go into recovery, get No Command signal and then it shows android recovery menu. Plz help.

I had a similar problem. What I did that seemed to work with my tab3 was:
  • Flash an older kernel
  • TWRP and Root
  • Flash the new kernel (if you want to)

Seemed to work fine with my one. I'm using the Australian stock ROM which updated itself when I first turned it on. Flashing an older kernel (which is a lot smaller than having to download the whole rom) seemed to allow TWRP to run.

Unfortunately the Australian stock ROM has been crippled so I ended up switching to the German one which works without any issues at all. The USA rom played silly buggers and refused to connect with my router for some reason.

Failed install

:crying:

Mistakenly disconnected cable in the middle of running ODIN and loading TWRP. Now can access TWRP but its not completely installed and no way to root. Tried rebooting, reinstalling no luck. Get this error

<ID:0/016> Added!!
<ID:0/016> Odin v.3 engine (ID:16)..
<ID:0/016> File analysis..
<ID:0/016> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/016> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Should i try to install CWM and will it overwrite my broken TWRP? Would installing an older version of TWRP fix it?

I'd return to stock first then start the whole TWRP process again.

oh :( .... its the only way to fix it? Can someone link me to the original ROM for usa if they different? Tab 3 8.0 wifi only.
Don't know if it's the only way to fix it but it should fix it. Maybe reflashing TWRP without going to stock might work but if not going to stock should fix it. You can get the rom from samsung-updates.com I think.
