I have a Mac, how do I do this on a Mac lol? I noticed there there are .exe files in Odin etc. I'm used to rooting and flashing Samsung phones, but a little confused with this tablet.

Giving your device the ability to flash your favourite custom ROMs, Kernels, Mods.
I'm used to CWM, but even after reading about TWRP want to make sure i understand this, can you, or can you not just flash any rom with TWRP on this device?? I'm used to the phones where you have to run a specific rom made for the phone, i.e. Shostock3 on my i777. But reading the OP, does TWRP let you flash "any" rom onto this device (or any device for that matter)??

Firmware release dependent??

Hi,

When starting up my new device, I accepted the OTA Android update from Samsung.

Now I would like to install this custom recovery. Can anyone tell me if this will still work, or should I wait for a version that is compatible with my updated stock rom?

Thanks Rob.

Technically, you CAN flash any rom you want, but you will want to stick with ones specific to your device. Flashing a ROM or Kernel for a device other than yours will likely put you into a bricked state. It could be a soft brick, but if the kernel re-maps your buttons, you may need to buy a recovery dongle to get back into recovery to flash a proper kernel to your device.

TL;DR - Don't flash ROMs that are not for your device.

I just bought us one of these and it looks amazing.

Does adding recovery automatically root the device? Or are root and discovery 2 separate installable things? Does it matter which is done first?

Root and recovery are 2 different things...you need recovery before root I believe

Bmg - I previously owned a sprint epic 4g touch, and in that world you loaded a stock or custom rooted rom in order to root your device. With this Tab and my new LG G2 it sounds as though you add root to a rom and you dont really need to wipe the whole device (if staying stock). I want to stay stock rooted for a while before trying roms.

Is my statement correct? So I can add root to this tab and then remove bloatware and etc and stay stock but rooted. Versus with sprint, I wouldnt bother updating apps or anything since to root it, I had to flash a whole rom and wipe it out completely. I hope my question made sense.

Root is technically just an app... /system/bin/su. Root is built into roms usually because it is easier that way. If you get a custom recovery on, you simply need to find a flashable su and a root app. If you are installing a custom Rom, a full wipe is always recommended... even updating from the same ROM...
Custom kernels and roms though are much more interesting as they add features... stock you are sick with tw

The ODIN flashable UK (BTU) stock firmware for the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 (T310XXUAMF1) is here - http://terafile.co/130237246172

Samsung-updates.com don't seem to have updated their links to it yet.

Here's TWRP 2.6.3.0 .img file for the T310, hopefully it'll help you;

I got it from a post from gr8nole or Android-Andi in the CM/OMNI threads (not sure which now), I've been using it on my T310.

If yours does say T310XXUAMF1 that firmware should work, can't see why it wouldn't.

BTU is United Kingdom, so it's English.
