It's because of the update binary included in some ROMs. MeanBean will work with the latest TWRP as will Viper4G. I have some rooted stock versions on my dev-host that also work. Any AOSP-based ROM should work. Besides that, people just need to update their binaries.
Superuser is listed in settings now instead of as an app but no way to update binaries. Do I have to download standalone to do that?

Quick question.
Can the goo manager update twrp directly from 2.4.4 to 2.5? Or is there any other steps to do first?

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
I went from 2.4.1.0 to 2.5.0.0 using Goo Manager without any issues.

Huh? What does Superuser have to do with anything?
Was wondering that myself:confused:

Haven't been able to mount my EXTERNAL (removable) SD card in recovery with 2.5.0.0., tried checking/unchecking just about every combo of options I could think of. Anybody else?? Also anyone know of a free app to mount the external SD card?

Maybe he's talking about in 2.4.4.0 where if you flashed a rom that had the old SU app, the recovery would force you to install SuperSU. It would actually throw a scary error message that takes you off guard the first time you see it.

I haven't updated to the latest version but I know I had the issue with a couple roms. Maybe it's optional for the recovery to check the SU installed and replace now if wanted.

I'm pretty sure the poster saw me talking about 'updating binaries' and assumed it had something to do with Superuser. Obviously, it doesn't. But as far as I know, TWRP never forced you to install anything. It only looks for the su binary and if it doesn't see it, gives you the option to install it to root your ROM. But it's always been optional.

The words "force" and "scary" should not come to anyone's mind when they see this screen. There's a big "Do Not Install" button right smack in the center if you don't want it. This screen only shows up if we don't find a su file in one of 3 locations so if you're already rooted you won't see the screen at all. Probably 75% of the people in this thread have never seen this screen at all.

Now I will admit that it might throw you off guard, so you got me there... >_>

Well now, that's not so scary anymore and I guess force wasn't really the right terminology. It "suggested" that you fix something that was some how broken. :D The message in 2.4.4.0 was much scarier than that! Lol It said root permission were "lost" (*So I'm thinking, how the hell did I just lose root by flashing a rom) and just gave the option to "Fix Root" or "Do Not Fix" and you really didn't know what/why you were fixing it (always being rooted/s-off from the beginning, then flashing a rom and the recovery telling you that your device isn't rooted is a bit scary and scratch your head like WTH just happened) and what "not" fixing would do. Turns out, not fixing didn't effect the rom at all but I had to do some testing to confirm that. Truth be told, I'm admittedly timid when I see errors in the recovery because of past experiences so maybe it's not scary, normally. :)

Pretty nice to see the change in messaging and as always, with every release, advancements in what you all are delivering to the community. I can't imagine not having the touch UI and full featured recovery now. Amon_RA was the ONE back in the day and now, where TWRP has gone, it's just ancient and it was cutting edge just 3-4yr ago. BRAVO!!! and THANK YOU ALL!

*Why does it look for the binaries now, was it an issue before because you are probably right, more than 75% of users have never seen it and in the versions leading up to 2.4.4.0 (may have started earlier) it wasn't a check that was included. Not that anyone at all asked me, but perhaps a small tweak to the language would help still. Maybe something like, "Your rom does not appear to have the most current SuperSU. Would you like to insall now?". I think the part about "rooting" had me (at first) hung up and I'm sure someone seeing the message would wonder why they are rooting, again, when they "just were rooted". Either way, install or not, they are going to be rooted right? Just my 2c that wasn't even asked for but either way, I appreciate the work and time you all put into this utility. TWRP/Titanium Backup/Total Commander are required utilities in my book and should be in every flashaholics as well.

Thanks Dees
