I have a sm-t350 running Nougat. Would you please tell me which version of TWRP I should use? When I look at the list, I find the last one for sm-t350 is in the category of "Marshmallow only". In the category of "Nougat" there is only T355.

Also, can you tell me where I can find the stock rom (hopefully, Nougat) for the sm-t350? Thank you so much, in advance.

Any help at all will be much appreciated. I'm at my wits end here. Nothing I am doing is working.
I think I need to ask for help, and chill out until the cavalry arrives!

This all started with me trying to install TWRP recovery on my SM-T350 running Nougat. So far I have had zero success with flashing any TWRP files into recovery.

I then took a look at some error messages I am getting when I manually boot into recovery. Something that makes no sense; failed to open ... misc: No such file or directory. Internet searches indicate that this can be cured by reloading factory version of firmware. So I get a file Samfw.com_SM-T350_XAR_T350XXU1CQJ5_fac.zip . Now this is a zip file, so I can't push it to the device from Odin. I opened the zip file and extracted the AP file to Odin and hit start. It tried to load Boot.img to the device and failed.

I tried to use the stock recovery to apply this zip file as an update from the SDcard. It also fails because footer is wrong and signature verification fails. If Samfw had a .tar file for my tablet, I could use it with Odin, but I haven't found one yet.

So, I'm dead in the water. I can't seem to get TWRP installed, and I can't even flash to stock rom Nougat 7.1.1 to clear the errors from recovery . I think most of my problem is not being familiar with Samsung and how it flashes partitions. I'm reasonably familiar with doing this stuff on other brands of phones/tablets, but not Samsung.

Anyway, any suggestions and/or constructive criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and efforts in replying.

I'm not sure I understand your reply. Are you saying I should use twrp tar files from SM-T550 or SM-T555? Will they work on my SM-T350?

You can get stock firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ - enter the model number (SM-T350) and select your country, and it'll list the available packages. For the T350 there should be both Nougat and Marshmallow packages. If you haven't downloaded from sammobile before, you'll need to register an account.

The version of TWRP that you should use is 3.5.2_9. You won't find it on this thread, which has been inactive for quite some time. See the FAQ Q5 in @retiredtab's LOS 18.1 for the T350 thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...or-galaxy-tab-a-sm-t350-june-11-2022.4305903/.

To proceed with installing TWRP, you might need the Marshmallow bootloader. This is because of a problem between TWRP and the Nougat bootloader for T350s with a BOE screen - the Nougat bootloader doesn't turn the screen backlight on, so TWRP's screen is blank. The Marshmallow bootloader does turn on the backlight.

To check whether your T350 has a BOE screen, install the DevCheck Hardware and System Info app from Google Play and look at the Hardware tab, Graphics section. If you have a BOE panel, the Panel item will contain "BOE". If you don't have a BOE panel, you can go with the Nougat bootloader.

Well I tried the SM-T550 and at least Odin was able to load it (at least once). When I tried to boot into recovery, I get the blue background with the Android bot and a message saying installing system update, after a while, the bot falls over and an exclamation point shows. After a while longer, I get the stock recovery and my usual error messages (see previous post) about a missing file. I then tried the SM-T555 tar file and it never finishes loading, but dies a slow death. Now, I can't get Odin to successfully reload the SM-T550 tar file.

Any suggestions???

Thank you so much. I used the app and I don't have a BOE panel. I found the twrp file on the link you provided. I will try it tomorrow and see how that goes. Also, I'll try to get the nougat file from sammobile. I registered with sammobile and am awaiting account activation email (their server must be slow). I am now hopeful something will start working.

Thanks again.

Looks like you have to be a premium member of sammobile to get sm-t350 stock roms. Do you know of another website that doesn't charge?

I'm trying to install TWRP_3.5.2_9_SM-T350_20210726_Unofficial.tar right now and it's not looking good for the home team. It's been downloading recovery for about 20 minutes with no progress on a 14M recovery image.

I also downloaded TWRP_3.5.2_9_SM-T350_20210726_Unofficial.img and I was wondering if there is a way to install that file (.img) from Odin or some other flash utility?

I'll give Odin a few more minutes to see if it's going to show any signs of progress. Otherwise I'll shut down for the evening and try again in the morning.

Thanks so much fo helping me. I really do appreciate it.

Thank you again lpedia. I have found and loaded Nougat stock rom, Loaded TWRP, and have rooted my system using chain fire. I would have never located that TWRP if it hadn't been for your help.

So, if you would answer two questions, it would be much appreciated.

1. The whole reason I am using this sm-t350 is that I want to get some experience loading custom firmware on Samsung. Can you recommend a custom ROM that doesn't need GAAPS. and also recommend a custom ROM that I can get a GAAPS and load it as well?

2. I have a recovery.img file for the SM-T350. Because Odin doesn't appear to work with anything besides .tar files, how would one go about loading only that recovery.img file? I don't want to have to reload the entire Nougat firmware.

Once again, thank you Sir or Madam. Without your help, I'd still be frustrated and floundering.

It depends on what you mean by 'needing' gapps. If you want to use apps that really do only work if Google's GMS services are present, you will need either stock Android or a custom ROM with a gapps package / MicroG.

LineageOS ("LOS") doesn't come with gapps and doesn't need GMS in any way. The @retiredtab thread I pointed you to is for an unofficial LineageOS 18.1 for the T350 (and I can confirm that it works well; I have two of these devices).

There are various other custom OSs - you'll find more about those on XDA - but I don't have personal experience of any of the others or know which of them has ROMs for the T350.

You can get open-source apps from sources such as F-Droid https://f-droid.org and various XDA development threads; you can even get all genuine Play Store apps via Aurora Store (and you can download the Aurora Store app via F-Droid). So you could experiment to see which of your favourite apps from Play Store will actually work without GMS. I know of at least some apps from Play Store that do work without gapps, including Microsoft Launcher, Nova Launcher, MS Edge browser, Cx File Explorer, and DevCheck.

2. I have a recovery.img file for the SM-T350. Because Odin doesn't appear to work with anything besides .tar files, how would one go about loading only that recovery.img file? I don't want to have to reload the entire Nougat firmware.
Odin expects tar files, so all you should need to do is 'tar' the recovery.img file with an archive tool such as 7-Zip. [Of course, when you install this you'll be over-writing TWRP with whatever the recovery.img is. ]

Note that you can also flash a recovery image (as a .img file) via TWRP itself. In the Install section, select "Image", and make sure to select Recovery as the target.

Once again, thank you Sir or Madam. Without your help, I'd still be frustrated and floundering.
You're welcome! Enjoy your experimenting!

I recommend retiredtab's LineageOS 18.1, and you can use it either with or without gapps. This ROM is being actively maintained and gets monthly updates with the latest Android security patches.

Without gapps, install F-Droid and Aurora Store to get any apps you need.

With gapps, I'd recommend BiTGapps. See the thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/custom-gapps-bitgapps-for-android.4012165/ and make sure to get the ARM package for Android 11 (also known as "R"). BiTGapps provides a range of packages, starting with a basic one that installs only the Google GMS services and Play Store, right through to one that installs every single app that would come with stock (non-vendor-specific) Android, and addons that can selectively install particular Google apps.

The basic package will obviously use less storage space, and won't add a lot of apps that'd chew up the T350's minimal system resources.

Custom ROMs can be found in the forums. All you have to do is research your specific device, model, version, and android version and you'll be able to find a match. Then just follow the instructions from that forum.

I tried flashing: twrp_3.0.2-1_sm-t555.tar and twrp_2.8.7.1 for the T555 but the touchscreen isnt properly working. I click on the top right corner and it clicks somewhere at the bottom etc.
twrp_3.3.1-0_gt510lte.img just show a black screen after a brief flash of the twrp boot logo.
I have android 7.1.
What recovery should I use then?
