What issues? Make sure booted into twrp from the tutorial and on that, flash the recovery posted in this thread to the recovery partition in twrp and reboot recovery
I just want to be clear before I do this -- I am rooted using the original instructions, but want to go from the 870 TWRP to the 872 TWRP. So can I do this using fastboot / adb:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img

Or I can use TWRP to replace itself with the 872 version in recovery, right?

Or should I use the python scripts method?

Sorry if these are newbie questions, I just don't want to screw anything up....

Boot into twrp. Go to install, select install image, and install the one provided in this thread. It will prompt you to install it on a partition. Make sure that only "recovery" is checked. Swipe to flash and reboot recovery. Everything works fine for me

I did this -- very quick and painless. But I noticed I still get unmount errors on system after a backup -- I thought this was supposed to fix that, or does this address something else?

What does having the 872 TWRP do for you that the 870 TWRP didn't? Again -- I apologize if these are newbie questions.

I also bought and installed Titanium Backup which seems highly recommended on all forums. I have that doing regular backups to my google drive.

It just allows you to flash roms or kernels for the h872. I dont really know what kind of problems stock is having because I'm running lineage 15.1 which is working amazing

Yea -- so that looks good. So I can backup my current setup (using default settings) and install lineage and give it a try. If I don't like it, just restore back to my default, all within TWRP, right?

I am going to try this because I can already tell that besides bloat, TMobile has some crazy stuff in their ROM -- like I think in some cases it looks for specific apps and blocks them (tethering), their security updates scare me...and overall would like to be rid of that.

Can you get visual voicemail running on lineage 15.1? Any other compromises with phone functionality...also, can you point me to the download you used?

edit: was it this: https://www.lineageoslog.com/14.1/us997. Basically lineage for the unlocked US model?

Many thanks...

The only problems I currently have is the stock camera not opening so I used one that is in the Razer forums and the only issue with that camera is not being able to record. If you look at the unofficial lineage 14.1 thread someone has linked lineage 15.1 for the h872. Of course you will need GAPPS

Edit: https://g6-community.org/ look for h872. If you have issues with this build pm me because i dont want to take this thread off topic

Okay I'm confused because there's different methods of flashing this being given and nobody is clarifying not even OP.

"Follow the steps exactly in this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...g-11g-t3775518 afterwards flash the image provided here in recovery"

"Flash the image to recovery, use the steps in the root thread to get it to stick and make sure you're actually booting into recovery and not laf"

"Boot into twrp. Go to install, select install image, and install the one provided in this thread. It will prompt you to install it on a partition. Make sure that only "recovery" is checked. Swipe to flash and reboot recovery. Everything works fine for me"

Which one are we supposed to follow without having any issues? We have H870 on laf so just flashing this H872 recovery won't break anything?

I have stated very well what needs to be done. But to clarify. Download the img from this thread. Boot onto twrp on laf, and install img via recovery

Okay see now that's still confusing, excuse my inexperience, but when you say "boot onto TWRP on laf"
I can't just boot into TWRP recovery from my phone to flash it? Are you saying go back through FWUL and use the last steps in the original 11g tutorial to flash this img?

No. Power off your phond. Hold the volume up button and connect your phone to your pc. Instead of dowload mode you should boot into recovery

Is there any difference from doing it that way versus just booting into recovery from Magisk? I can get to TWRP without my computer.
I can't answer this question, but my guess is TWRP is TWRP no matter how you get into it, but I did it with the traditional method using my laptop.

Once there, you should have copied the file in this thread to a tmp dir on your SD card, so then you just flash that and make sure only recovery is checked. It is very quick and easy.

You are basically flashing a new TWRP while running TWRP -- not an issue because TWRP runs entirely in RAM once it is running and doesn't lock the partition like regular Android or Linux would.

Thank you. So since we already ran the "recovery-from-boot.p" command in the root tutorial, shouldn't have to run that again right? Recovery should stick once I install this new one thru TWRP?

I didn't and it worked. I am waiting for the lineage to get more stable and then I am going to switch to that. T-Mobile has some weird stuff hidden in their ROM.

And having switched from an iPhone for the last 7 years (but knowledgeable about Linux / Android), T-Mobile Visual Voice Mail sucks--is there an alternative :)

Great, now TWRP is asking for a decrypt password. Why is this?

Fixed /system mounting issues

let me know if you have any issues and I will do what I can to fix them.

It's asking me for a decrypt password. Don't have one set.

Ricardo,

You mentioned this which is great and encouraging, I think you also mentioned camera issues you had somewhat worked around. Would you be willing to start another thread on LineageOS 15.1 / h872? I'll take the plunge, but since this is my main phone, I need all the basics:
1) Visual VM even if it's TMobile's crappy app reinstalled.
2) Working camera / video for kids and work
3) Pulse text messages
4) I use Outlook for mail, so I would delete everything else
5) Working tethering (and ideally someway to hide it from TMobile, but with 10GB now, not a big deal)
6) Phone works fine (should get most settings from SIM anyway) while roaming, etc.
7) Music player
8) Access to play store (I think you can manually register your device)

I think that's all I can think of unless there are known popular apps that are not working well under Oreo / Lineage. Since you are the pioneer, it would be great to here more specifics!

Hi Everyone,

I tried to install the xposed framework tonight and ended up with a bootloop and had to restore using TWRP. Note sure if this was because of the xposed FW, or the fact that I wiped Dalvik / Cache which about 1/2 the instructions tell you to do.

Has anyone gotten this installed and working on their rooted 872?

MW
