How can I update software?
Now 185, but 195 comming.
I did the replace the patched ramdisk image with the stock one (see other thread) updated, but had to in e-recovery. Despite what it says it does not wipe user data BUT DON'T trust me on that. Updated then reinstalled patched ramdisk and as good as before (or better).

The one hassle was having to adb remove the Huawei launcher to get Nova again, and rechecking that magisk is not battery optimized. I was going to do a full wipe without encryption and do TWRP, but was too busy to dedicate the time/risk on a trip.

I'm not sure what I'm missing but can't get the phone to boot into TWRP.
I've followed the installation instructions, made sure I didn't mistype anything and even did dd in both adb and term on the phone.
No matter what button I press, phone always boots to rooted system.
What am I missing?

You are plugged into a PC or Power when you are rebooting and trying to boot to TWRP? That is one of the ways to do it, and while rebooting hold VOLUME UP THE ENTIRE TIME, you will feel the vibration of the phone, keep holding till you get the eRecovery menu pop up, then you can release briefly, and then hold it one more time till it says at the bottom of the screen that it is NOW BOOTING. Then you can let go. This entire time though you must be plugged into some sort of USB, either power or PC.

One other way to do it, is to reboot and hold both VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN the entire time it is booting. Until it says Now Booting at the bottom of the screen. It will boot completely into your system. But just let it sit for about 10 seconds and the phone should reboot on its own and show the eRecovery Menu. This time hold VOLUME UP until it says NOW BOOTING at the bottom of the screen.

The first method is the easiest though.

Guess I wasn't holding Vol+ long enough.

Got it to work, thank you!!

I don't suppose there is a step by step video to help guide us? I just bought the evrl29 after coming from the mi mix original version and idk if it's just because it's more lengthy step wise or something but rooting for the 20x seems intimidating and I'd rather not screw it up. If no video is able to be made, I understand, just figured id try asking haha.

Given that the Huawei devices are a bigger pain, though the 20x is either slightly easier than priors like the Mate 9. (I love my Mi Mix original too & plenty of dev activity still)

The other approach is root and not TWRP if stock ROMs meet the need.

I can tell you that Root is way better at this moment rather than TWRP, unless you want to flash some custom Zip's, Apps, or Customs ROM's ( which curently there is only one ). Root is the way to go if you have your Bootloader unlocked.

I success update to 195 by e-recovery.

TWRP touch not working.

Hello, i have an issue with this TWRP on a Mate 20 X. It installs and boots fine, but TWRP is NOT responding to touch commands on the screen.

Not sure why this could be happening, but i have no idea on how to fix this, any help is appreciated.

Hello and sorry for my bad language in advance...
I've installed magisk with erecoveryMagisk... And there no problem.
Now I'll install twrp recovery without problem... and after factory reset with twrp and reboot system no magisk...
Is there always on another partition or I'll must reinstall it?
Thanks if you help me....

It works for me on my AL00. What variant do you have? Try downloading it again and reinstall it via adb.

I have perhaps forgive something but which is the process to gain su rights?

Unlocking bootloader is-it necessary?

From OP (original post #1) "Magisk root and ADB/a terminal app is REQUIRED for the installation of TWRP as fastboot does not allow flashing of erecovery_ramdisk partition.", so yes unlocked bootloader is needed in order to install Magisk and this TWRP.
