7. Go back to Wipe > Format Data > type yes.
8. Reboot to recovery.

Hello
I have a few questions:

1. My phone is: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G
should I download:
a) twrp-3.6.0_11-4_afaneh92-r8s.tar
or
b) twrp-3.6.0_11-6_afaneh92-r8q.tar
?

2. Should I download the other files as listed on the website (vbmeta_disabled.tar/multidisabler-samsung-3.x.zip)? Do I have to look for these files in the 4G version?

3. Will I lose my phone data after uploading TWRP and ROOT?

4. Do I have to download a universal version of the magisk or a special one for this phone?

5. Is the same changelog for twrp 4g and 5g?

Thanks for helping me

P.S.
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G
SM-G780G / DS
Android 11
OneUI: 3.1
Knox: 3.7
Knox API: 33

@mayster as you have said your phone is a SM-G780G/DS that means it has a snapdragon chip, you should use the thread for the r8q version.

use the files linked in the thread.
your data will be completely wiped 3 times in the process of flashing TWRP. backup!!

Whoever asks does not err! Good that I asked you because I would lose all my data. Thanks for the help!
Coming back to the magisk program - can I download the universal version of this program from the website:
or do I need a special version dedicated to Samsung?
(I used to have Xiaomi and there were reworked, dedicated magisk versions. That's why I ask)

if you want to flash magisk thru TWRP then get the zip file for magisk v21.4 zip and the manager app version 8.0.7

on github click on assets under the listing/changelog. the manager should be just under the zip listing.

I'm stuck.
I completed points 1 to 4. I uploaded the following files via ODIN: vbmeta_disabled.tar and twrp-3.6.0_11-6_afaneh92-r8q.tar
Now I'm trying to enter RECOVERY MODE to upload multidisabler-samsung-3.x.zip and Magisk-23.0.zip - unfortunately I can't enter RECOVERY MODE. I turn off the phone and then turn it on by holding VOL + and POWER.

The following information appears on the screen:
"The phone bootloader is unlocked ....
press POWER KEY to continue "

later the following information appears:
"SAMSUNG S20 FE
The phone is not running Samsung official software ... "

And then Android starts up normally.

How to enter RECOVERY MODE? What am I doing wrong?

I turned off the phone. I connected my phone to my computer with a USB cable. The screen shows that the phone is charging as a percentage. Then I pressed VOL + and the POWER KEY. I have entered RECOVERY MODE which looks like in the attached photo. There is no possibility to install ZIP files there (multidisabler-samsung-3.x.zip and Magisk-23.0.zip). REVOCERY MODE doesn't look like TWRP.
I'm doing something wrong ... :(

I found a solution. Immediately after installing TWRP, disconnect the USB cable and press VOL- and POWER. When the phone turns off, quickly connect the USB cable and press VOL + and POWER. Then we will enter TWRP.
The rest was easy.

Thank you for your help and my regards

Hello,

after many tries, the solution from mayster works ...

old:

I have a g780g and followed your guide. When I want to enter TWRP (step 5) with the key combo vol up + power it will enter the stock android recovery. Do you know what's wrong?

Thanks for helping me

Hi, finally Magisk rooted on my new SM-G780G (S20FE-4G) and changed CSC from XEC to BTU with Phone info +
I followed those instructions on this video : How to root the Samsung Galaxy S20 series

Don't know why it's written in OP that you need to flash "vbmeta_disabled.tar" in "AP".
From the tutorial it's in "USERDATA" and don't need to press any button after flashing just wait the double reboot to recovery ("Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" enabled in Odin options).
After the reboot in the tutorial he reboots directly to download mode. Me I finished the setup since it was the last factory reset.

I will not install TWRP for the moment since I have trouble to reboot from download mode to recovery.
(I tried also ADB fastboot command with "boot.img" file but it's not working)

Cheers.
Hi @Svan987
I have the same model SM-780G (S20FE-4G) and I have the same problem rebooting in the TWRP custom recovery after succesfully flashing it with Odin. I have tried numerous times, but pressing the Volume UP + Power will not put the phone in the recovery mode. It just boot up into system...

I really do not understand how fast we need to be to press at the exact moment the recovery key combo.
Too bad the One UI room doesn't have an Advanced Restart option when pressing the power button, in which we could select: Normal Restart, Recovery, Bootloader, Download Mode, just like some custom rooms have (e.g.: Ressurection Remix).

I'm in the exact situation as you, mate.
Same SM-780G (S20FE-4G), and the unexplained inability to reboot into TWRP recovery, no matter how many tries I did to reboot using the indicate Vol Up + Power key combination.

Bravo, clever move! 👌🏻
It seems that inserting the power cable after powering on the phone (after the TWRP flash) + the recovery combo keys managed to boot into the TWRP recovery.

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

    Code:
     * Your warranty is now void.
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or your getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

    Supported Models:
    Galaxy S20 FE 5G G7810, G781B, G781N, G781U, G781U1, G981W and G780G (4G).

    US/Canada bootloader unlock thread:
    here

    Download & Guide:
    1. Unlock your bootloader.
    2. Download S20 FE 5G: r8q.
    3. Reboot to download mode and flash vbmeta_disabled.tar in AP slot and reboot. Device will reboot to stock recovery mode prompting you to wipe data so wipe data and reboot to download mode again.
    4. Put the TWRP tar for your device with Odin in the AP slot and click start.
    5. Reboot to recovery via recovery key combo.
    6. Disable encryption:
    - Go to Advanced > Terminal, type: multidisabler.
If vendor complain about free space left on device, will attempt to resize vendor. and it ask to - Run multidisabler again!.
    - Type: multidisabler again. will see - Finished. when done.
    7. Go back to Wipe > Format Data > type yes.
    8. Reboot to recovery.
    9. Flash magisk apk in twrp.
    10. Reboot to system, Enjoy.

    Note:
    To disable encryption manually:
You need to replace fileencryption=ice with encryptable=ice only in userdata line (maybe rest lines) in vendor/etc/fstab.qcom
To avoid stock recovery restoration manually:
    Rename system/recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.p.bak

    Bugs:
    - Encryption not fully working.

@afaneh92 just checking in to ask what if any sources to you want / need to help you ?
I'm on the Samsung open source site now and downloading a zip for G781BXXU2CUD1 but I've no idea if it's kernel sources inside (280mbs ish). another page I saw here mentioned using the inquiry tab to submit a request.

if you can tell me exactly what you want I'll more than happily put in a request for it, I'm sure others would too.

I'll edit this later and add the zip files full name that I've downloaded and if you want that I'll put it mediafire or similar.

SM-G781B_SEA_RR_Opensource.zip is the archive name, taken from clicking on G781BXXU2CUD1 which matches my current baseband and buildnumberView attachment 5299763
I will start working on the new kernel source soon.

    Hi everybody,
Sorry in advance for this noob question.
Starting from stock Android12, I went thru all @afaneh92 process and it's working nicely.
Now I'd like to upgrade to Androi13: do I have to rerun exactly all the process (& so loosing my data)?
In other words: are BL unlock and avb disable persistent after an Odin flash ?
Thank you for sharing your skills !
Note: steps 2-6 are important, missing any will lose your data.

    1. Load all files to their respective slots in odin, pick HOME_CSC instead of CSC.
    2. Uncheck auto reboot in Odin and hit start.
    3. Reboot to download if possible from odin options (not working on all devices), or using buttons combo.
    4. Keep auto reboot unchecked, Flash TWRP in AP slot and vbmeta_disabled.tar in USERDATA
    5. Hold volume down and power until the screen goes black then immediately switch to holding volume up and power to reboot into TWRP.
    6. Disable encryption:
    - Go to Advanced > Terminal, type: multidisabler.
You will see " - Finished." When it is done.
    7. flash magisk then reboot to system (optional).
