Hi, I am fairly new to this process as I want to root my Samsung S20+. Model is SM-G986N and I have already unlocked my bootloader, my OEM Unlocking toggle is greyed out and I have USB debugging enabled too.

The problem I am encountering is that no matter what version TWRP (y2q) I download for my S20+, I can't seem to boot to TWRP even when Odin says it was a "PASS". I even tried to do adb and fastboot via cmd, but it always boots to the stock recovery menu. It never lets me boot to the TWRP Recovery menu.

I followed this:
1. Bootloader unlocked, OEM unlocking greyed out, USB debugging enabled
2. Went to Download Mode, then Odin and flashed vbmeta_disabled.tar in AP, which passed.
3. It prompted me to wipe data, which I did.
4. Went to download mode again, flashed the recovery tar file (tried 4 different versions under y2q on 4 different instances), and it all PASSED.
5. [PROBLEM] Pressed my VOLUME UP + POWER KEY to supposedly go to TWRP, but it only leads me to the stock recovery menu

I need to know what I did wrong. Or whether my phone just doesn't allow me to proceed.
I updated my phone via Samsung Smart Switch to the UI 4.1 Android 12 version just today.

when you flash twrp in odin you have to force reboot too recovery right aster flash or phone will automatically replace twrp back with stock recovery the best way if your not quick enough too reboot too stock recovery ater flash is either turn of auto reboot in odin. or flash the regular csc file along with twrp in odin this will force phone too boot too twrp after flashing

Tried turning off auto reboot on Odin but hasn't worked. When you say "the regular csc file", do you mean the HOME_CSC file from my phone's stock firmware download?

What do you mean it doesn’t work turning off auto reboot. You flash twrp in odin and manually reboot too stock recovery when Odin is done flashing.

That's what I did.

I unchecked Auto Reboot
When flash passed, I immediately pressed and held my volume down + power key to exit download mode.
Then I switched to pressing and holding the Volume Up + Power Key to go to recovery.
Still ends up in stock recovery mode.

Hi

When I run "Wipe", I get the following error.

Failed to mount '/carrier'(Invalid argument)

Is there a workaround?

Has "Wipe" been completed successfully?

--Info--
My Device : Galaxy S20 snapdragon (Japan model SCG01)
OS Ver : Android 12
TWRP Ver : twrp-3.6.0_11-4_afaneh92-x1q

I did this with my S10e and S10 without a hitch. They were SM-G970F and SM-G973F. Now I have an S20, SM-G9810. I flashed Hong Kong firmware (CRC TGY), Android 11, G9810ZHS3DUL3 (because I am trying to use microG in place of play store, which I was able to do on both the previous S10 models).
This is not working. After I flash the magisk patched AP (with CP and CSC and BL), reboot to download, then TWRP (x1s) in AP and vbmeta_disabled in CP successfully, but when I hold Vol + and Bixby, this is the error I receive:
RPMB fuse Set
RPMB PROVISIONED
CURRENT BINARY: Custom (0x30F)
FRP LOCK : OFF
OEM LOCK : ON (U)
KG STATUS : CHECKING
WARRANTY VOID " 0x1 (0xE03)
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT : ENABLE
RP SWREV : B3(1,1,1,3,1,1) K3 S3
SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLE
SPU(VALID):5
HDM STATUS : NONE
DID : 200412620E856811
I have USB debugging enabled. I have root access. But, I cannot use Odin to flash TWRP. I tried adb sideload also, even after granting ADB root permission in the magisk manager (but I don't know if that includes recovery ADB sideload). The recovery was the stock recovery as I cannot flash TWRP.

I did not know the SM-G9810 was Snapdragon. I thought it was Exynos. I did get root, so the bootloader can be unlocked. I trust there is no TWRP for that. Now I will try

twrp-3.4.0-1_afaneh92-x1q.tar

Thank you for your help!

Team Win Recovery Project 3.x, or twrp3 for short, is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. Its a fully touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

    Code:
    * Your warranty is now void.
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or your getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
Note: My TWRP builds are free I take no money or selling them, The new builds support US devices unlocked before 9 november or added upon request.

    Supported Models:
    Galaxy S20 Ultra G9880, G988N, G988U, G988U1 and G988W.
    Galaxy S20 plus G9860, G986N, G986U, G986U1 and G986W.
    Galaxy S20 G9810, G981N, G981U, G981U1 and G981W.

    US/Canada bootloader unlock thread:
    here

    Download & Guide:
    1. Unlock your bootloader.
    2. Download S20: x1q, S20+: y2q or S20 Ultra z3q.
    3. Reboot to download mode and flash vbmeta_disabled.tar in AP slot and reboot. Device will reboot to stock recovery mode prompting you to wipe data so wipe data and reboot to download mode again.
    4. Put the TWRP tar for your device with Odin in the AP slot and click start.
    5. Reboot to recovery via recovery key combo.
    6. Disable encryption:
    - Go to Advanced > Terminal, type: multidisabler.
If vendor complain about free space left on device, will attempt to resize vendor. and it ask to - Run multidisabler again!.
    - Type: multidisabler again. will see - Finished. when done.
    7. Go back to Wipe > Format Data > type yes.
    8. Reboot to recovery.
    9. Flash magisk apk in twrp.
    10. Reboot to system, Enjoy.

    Note:
    To disable encryption manually:
You need to replace fileencryption=ice with encryptable=ice only in userdata line (maybe rest lines) in vendor/etc/fstab.qcom
To avoid stock recovery restoration manually:
    Rename system/recovery-from-boot.p to recovery-from-boot.p.bak
    Support:
Live support is available via #twrp on Freenode with your IRC client or just click this link.

Is it ok to NOT use the multi disabler?. I mean I flashed it already but just saying.
This thread has the details of what all it helps with.

Thanks @afaneh92. For others' help, if anyone finds it useful, I flashed TWRP on my G986U1 using this sequence:
    • Unlocked bootloader as I described here.
    • Flashed vbmeta from this thread using patched Odin.
    • Flashed TWRP using patched Odin but did not auto-reboot.
    • Rebooted into TWRP using key combination.
    • Format data
    • Flashed multidisabler from OP in TWRP.
    • Format data again, just to be safe.
