Go to your settings > about phone > hit the "MIUI version" 10 times to activate Developer options
I've done all that, it just doesn't work, the mi unlocker just tells me to set mi unlock status even though I've already done that, I guess I'll reset the phone or something before trying again.

it then just connect your phone to the pc mi bootloader unlock tool .. if the miui unlock status unlocked he will give an time perhaps 168 hours then everything it's good and wait till thatAs I said, I've already tried this, it still asks me to set status to unlocked even though I already did this.
maybe it's not available officially for now as every new Xiaomi devices .. I thinks it will be available after India launch ( on August 8 ) .. I didn't try it with my redmi 9 .
wait until india reales on 4 August . the device still freshI just bought redmi 9 yesterday and can't unlock either

did you remember what os and mui u had ? i think we didnt get in our region thats why we cant unlock
What region did you select in ( Additional settings > Region ) and what country you are in ?MIUI Global 11.0.4.0 QJCMIXM
