Hellos, I understand the current Redmi K50 pro is running the China rom of MIUI 13. I managed to get playstore installed but i am unable to get chrome install and removing the assorted chinese roms. Is there a solution for this or i will have to wait for custom rom support?

Also if you are from Europe did you pay any customs fees or taxes?
If you DONT request NOT to install anything, they will open the box, play with it and then send it to you with some google apps installed, but that leaves the door open for not receiving a brand new item 100% sure you are the 1st owner, I asked them by email and the order details no to open the box and had sent it to me untouched unopened all brand new, also YES YOU HAVE TO PAY CUSTOMS TAXES i payed around 50 USD extra for customs, I payed it directly to DHL once the phone was close to home delivery

By untouched you mean they didn't install google play services right? I haven't specified that but I guess if I do a factory reset it would probably be the same or am I wrong?

I don't know to be honest what kind of rom it will be shipped with, anyone if it supports OTA you won't put probably have any problems... just remember to login with your Mi Account and then wait the days needed to unlock the bootloader (it will erase all data).

I didn't pay any taxes with standard shipping.

Maybe you'll pay taxes with express shipping (DHL), but try to have a refund, when I contact them by chat they said no taxes for both shipping types.

I requested for a sealed box since it hasn't been shipped yet and they replied that they can do it so I will get it sealed. As for the taxes it says in the site that US has fees and taxes. In Europe with express delivery, it says there are no taxes that's why I wanted to ask if Valeriuz was from Europe.

DHL is not for express shipping at least in Europe. If you check here: https://www.giztop.com/customs-duty

It clearly states: "Some remote areas in Europe(island included) cannot be shipped by Express(EU Priority shipping), only ship by DHL/FedEx, so customs duties cannot be avoided."

So DHL is for when there is no express option. Also in every region except Europe, it states clearly that there are customs and taxes, and depending on the region you may pay more or less.

I want to ask something since I will install google services on the phones myself. I watched some video guides and there is something that I don't get. To install google services do you need to install "Google Installer", "Google Play" and "Google Play Services" or just install "Google Play"?

This is the video I found for the first method("Google Installer", "Google Play" and "Google Play Services"):

There is an option within the last settings options, there you need to turn on the basic google services and then install the Google play store by downloading the APK from APK mirror website or somewhere else, install the APK (either by USB transfers or browser download) and then you can go ahead and install regular google apps, there are some apps not working 100% as regular like Google 1, Google Assistant and Android Auto, however, can be set to be working almost 100 by placing a few tricks, also it is strongly suggested that you enable AUTOSTART option on the apps you regularly use with notification like Gmail SMS Telegram WhatsApp Bank apps etc, disable also the battery saver mode on those same apps, so you will have no delay at all on those apps weather with regular performance or battery saver on, you can text me if you wish telegram or whats app +52.477.111.2936

Also you may want to debloat some trash Chinese apps by adb commands i followed this guide... No need of root access at all... https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
Actually I already have a plan for that. I have downloaded XiaomiADBFastbootTools and I also have this guide:
that shows how to use it. Next I found this post that shows what packages are safe to remove: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/packages-which-are-safe-to-remove-and-a-few-problems.4006171/ and I will combine it with this comment from the post(https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...move-and-a-few-problems.4006171/post-81380377) so I can remove only whats needed.

Sharing here what I did on my phone to make the experience smoother.

1 - Remove bloatware
2 - Install Nova Launcher
3 - More Locale 2 -> It didn`t solve the issue, but it helps. Maybe there is a way to include more languages on Xiaomi`s rom.
4 - The latest update improve significantly the Bluetooth stability. I was having a lot of disconnections.
5 - Android Auto wasn`t working, so I root the device and used systemizer to install as a system app and disable the MIUI improvements on the first run. Apparently there is something that blocks AA from running OK on the first run.
6 - The latest root with Shamiko works very well with all applications.

I wasn`t able to fix the Google One backup, apparently, there is an AUTH_KEY missing and the server authentication fails at the beginning of the backup. Not sure how to solve this and didn`t find more information on the internet.

Didn`t tried to make Google Assistant work, but let`s give a try.

Hope that helps those have facing issues with the phone.
Hi HoffRS,

Would you mind telling us how did you root your K50p ? I've seen a lot of info about getting TWRP or Orange Fox but neither of these recovery tool have an approved version for the K50p.
Systemizing the google apps seems to be the way to go and I'd love to follow your steps (especially to get AA to work, I use it everyday) but I need to root the phone before that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks

Hello Horyzon95,

There is not TWRP available for k50p, so I used the fastboot method, following a good tutorial of how to do it:

Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately, using that method, I wasn't even able to unlock the bootloader. For some reason, after using the "fastboot oem unlock" command, my phone would never ask me to agree to unlock the bootloader. Instead, it just reboots, with bootloader still locked.

I guess I'll wait for either TWRP or a global rom...

Not all cards are accepted in GPay, unless confirmed working previously.
Also, need to set Default Wallet to "HCE Wallet" for the NFC feature by apps like GPay.

    Has anyone tried GPay (NFC)?
I am unable to add cards to GPay, when I try I get an error saying "Card Type not accepted" for every card.

Not tested yet but I would not be surprised if it is not working, some Gapps are not working well in china roms

Thanks, I found the reason of "Card Type not accepted" was location. In Google settings I had to change the address in Payment profile, Then my card was accepted by GPay.

So, after setting the right location/address and default wallet to HCE I am now able to use GPay.

Just as FYI... yes I fixed my issue of the phone not being recognized by the computer through USB MTP connection, results that I forced update from 18 to 20 by recovery dirty installation and no factory reset after that, so it had many internal conflicts until I reset factory in update 20 and now works perfectly, so bad that I have to reinstall almost everything but Xiaomi Cloud backups helps a lot, also using NOVA launcher with saved settings, amazing!
I cant find AI Image Engine in the Display Settings. Do you know where it is?

you need to set "google basic services" option on in settings, then install a new version play store apk. K50 can pass safetynet, don't worry it. I have one too, and I can use play store normally.

I understand you don't speak English and I speak it but I suck at writing properly lol.

So because there's no global version there's no source code?

Also mediatek? Do they not offer source or is it to hard to build on?

I was thinking and hearing the poco F4 pro or F4 ultra was going to be a branded Redmi k50 pro but they cancelled that. Which sucks.

I find it weird that MediaTek finally comes out with a chip that's on par with the Snapdragon and no phone in the world has it. All the phones that were supposed to have have it removed it for the Snapdragon 870 or a different ****ter mediatek CPU. The Redmi k50 pro is the only dimensity 9000 phone other than 1 vivio phone that's almost 1000 dollars. OnePlus was supposed to use and they didn't. It's like Qualcomm told them if they go with mediatek that'll break business ties with them or something.

Yes I do speak English but I also suck a lot typing hahahaha....

The reason is that according to A LOT OF RESEARCH I´ve doing (reading), it seems that there are some issues regarding overall source code and Xiaomi has not been able to fix it...

    1) the issue is regarding bootloader and flashing new rom version, therefore, Xiaomi has not released the source code yet so anyone can build a Custom Rom, the situation is that MediaTek has specific bootloader codes giving issues, so it is possible to brick the phone if we flash a Custom Rom.

    2) Also, due to MediaTek processor (bootloader code issues), there is not even an actual Tool to help easily flash STOCK Roms fully compatible, the only way to do it, is by ADB, hoping, the phone allows to get into Recovery Mode (if not fully bricked) and then Flash STOCK Rom.

    3) You can unlock bootloader for sure by logging into MI Account, but there is no TWRP Recovery not other Recoveries, no Custom Roms no nothing, so even if you are fully able to Unlock the phone and then Rooting it, if you break it, then pray whatever GOD you are going to be able to reflash STOCK by ADB without issues, otherwise....good bye +550 USD phone, I had to pay 750 USD by bringing the phone from CHina to Mexico, so Im not willing to experiment that much, but who knows, maybe Ill try to flash STOCK by ADB and let you know my results.

    4) Xiaomi.EU Team providing custom roms based on STOCK but all DEBLOATED, they do not support MediaTek but only Qualcom, so no support from them neither.

CONCLUSION: As I how I can see it, we have 2 options:

    a) We wait without any actual hope for someone to bring the Custom scene up to 2024....or....

    b) we can create (i Guess) a FULL FORUM for the device to help us all in all the turnarounds and tricks to bring the CHINA Rom as close as possible to a GLOBAL-Like Version, which, is exactly what I ve doing the last month....

Thank you bro!!! HOpe my explanation can give all more insisghts....

Thanks for sharing. Can you share a link to the root guidance? It may sound stupid, but is it possible to root with locked bootloader?

Would very much appreciate if you find and share how to activate Google assistant by voice - apart from Android auto (which I will fix after rooting) it's the last thing that bothers me with this rom. Maybe try setting Google as system app?

Also give a try Niagara launcher - I use it for years and it's amazing (it you are into minimalist screen setup)
A good website to start the root process is the Magisk website https://magisk.me/

Unlock the bootloader is mandatory to root the device. You may find on Google (Youtube) videos explaining the process with Xiaomi devices. There are specific tools for that and is not very difficult.

The process of rooting is a little more tricky because you will have to make it using the fastboot method which is downloading the current rom that you have installed, unzipping, retrieving the boot.img, processing it using Magisk app for finaly via fastboot flash into the device. There are also videos on Youtube of how to do this process.
    3
Side load Play Store apk, then login Play Store to install any apps you need such as Google Maps, etc.
    2
I think the current rom includes Google Play Services Framework. Just download the apk and sideload the Google Play Store app. Have a try.
