Thankyou SDeba for the really useful post. I tried the CFRoot version and got a constant reboot, but the speedmod version worked perfect.

I noticed the CFRoot version is removed from OP so I assume it was a problem.

I know this is the wrong thread but wasnt sure if this is a problem of the mini rom or your Debas rom... one problem I noticed though is that when I flash your gingerbread-standard-wipe rom I cannot use recovery properly at the recovery boot. Tells me that the rom is not signed.

I will flash bad to stock froyo and try again and report back.

There is another way very fast whitout Odin.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Gingerbread S in development.
Up to date version 2.3.3 JVB. See "All firmwares" topic in the download section or Samfirmwares
Custom ROMs for the move to Gingerbread simple. Stock ROM only by Odin.
Most Custom Froyo all root users run now ... All actions directly from the SGS.
very handy!

How to:

"SGS kernel flasher" app (where else first CF-root root root = .. flash via odin required)
"Quick Boot application. (market)

1) place the kernel (speedmod tar / zip) and Gingerbread (custom) ROM on your internal SD
2) In SGS kernel flasher (OFF auto-reboot) the kernel (speedmod) flashing.
3) App abandoned boat and Quick Start> choose recovery
4) In Cwm GB ROM select and ready ..

Obviously this is for all Custom Gingerbread roms but your way is faster.....good job :)
The method you outlined may or may not work, but I can't make heads or tails of the instructions you gave so I have no idea really.

What exactly is "App abandoned boat" supposed to mean? Also looking at your four steps I don't see where the GB bootloader is installed before flashing the custom ROM (which I assume is what you do in step 4, even though "GB ROM select and ready" doesn't mean what you may think it means).

Lastly, it is not good form to hijack someone else's thread with your own way of doing what they posted about. If you have faith in your process, make your own thread....but clear, concise instructions would be helpful.

sorry, I don't wanted to give the impression of a hack topic. Only from stock Gingerbread to Custom rom using the two app's if you run Already root.
it's the same process as custom ROMs GB only without the intervention of Odin.
and pull out the battery trick.

edit:
.My head is a mess today .... :)

I apologize to the topic starter ...
Have a nice day

that's all ..

for all users here:
I think its very risky to flash only bootloaders. Why dont flash the whole ROM when its much safer:

Why not flashing bootloaders alone:
Flashing bootloaders is risky, this is why when the XXJVK with bootloaders has been repackaged then it was repackaged so 2 files will be flashed prior to bootloaders, so if there is a bad connection between the PC and the phone or with Odin by any chance, then Odin is far from touching boot sectors, and by that a member can have a good flash even while flashing a full firmware with bootloaders included.

I don't advice to flash bootloaders only, if there is a bad connection or Odin hangs by any chance, then you have nothing but a paper-weight nice-looking-dead-device on your desk.

My question is: Do you see any thread or a post in this forum that stats a bricked or a dead device after 16000+ downloads and then take the risk of flashing bootloaders only?

hi,

just tried to flash following the procedure, now I'm getting speedmod recovery as usual, but it does not seem that the GB bootloaders were installed...

when flashing insanity 8.1, i'm stuck on the Galaxy S logo.

Did I miss something ?

I think that it simplifies the installation proccess. Instead of downloading and flashing the whole GB, you just need to download 8MB pack and flash, then you're ready to flash custom ginger ;)

Yep, first of all save the MD5 values into the file by typing that:
Code:
md5sum -t Your_file.tar >> Your-file.tar
Then rename that file:
Code:
mv Your_file.tar Your_file.tar.md5
That's all ;)

that's because you have considerable expertise and often are one of the people others call for help after they've messed up! (Much appreciated by all)

This pack gets noobies started with minimal exposure to the aspects most likely to cause confusion and error i.e. the Odin flash part, plus minimizes the number of steps (no need to explain rooting etc.).

As the Galaxy gains in popularity so will first time custom Rom users.
