Fixed. You can use which kernel you want. But if you wanna working EIS on custom roms use Sphinx 1.9.

I asked the same question a while back but got no answer, it appears you can indeed since they are the exact same platform, only small kernel differences, hence why you need to flash a mi8 specific kernel.

I wish to have so much works on mi8 ROMs as on Poco but I think there is much more Poco users as it's cheaper
