I manage to get it working but not on the Desktop mode. It works when you disable the Desktop and I am wondering is there anyway to have it in Desktop Mode?

No, at least for now. You have to disable launcher file mode from Experimental Features and then set it from the app. Moreover in some cases (like for Muzei) the wallpaper returns the default's one when you close the app, at least for me
