remount,rw seems OK, but changes not preserved

Hi.
How do I gain write access to /system via adb? "remount,rw" succeeds, but after reboot my changes aren't preserved. From the other hand, changes made via recovery are preserved just fine. What is this, some additional protection from HTC? How to disable it? I noticed the problem in the stock firmware 4.14.401.2. In previous versions, for example, supersu could update itself, but not in this version.

Hi!
You need s-off to make actual changes.
Granting yourself rw, unfortunately, won't do the trick.

This is for s-off, however, seems the downloads are no longer working and that's likely due to HTC not liking s-off. :(

(I left a reply there trying to get the last piece of the puzzle)

You might be able to find a universal init.d that you flash in recovery and install a write protection script. (this isn't s-off but it works just as fine)

Alternatively, and slightly painfully (due to cost), you could get SunShine and pay $25 USD to obtain s-off the easy way.

if you (or anyone reading this) have Jmz stock rom, then we could get s-off with the thread I linked!
