That isn't an EFS issue, if it was, you would have no signal.

Your carrier probably is using bands that aren't enabled on the US996 but are on the H910. There are several threads around here on how to check what bands are enabled, and how to enable bands that aren't.

If you can't with the US996 modem, then yes, you will have to root to flash the H910 modem back onto your phone since there is no H910 KDZ.

If the modem IS the problem, once you are rooted, and flashed the H910 modem, you can unroot keeping the US996 firmware except for the modem. It is a long, boring process though :)

EDIT: also, if you ever take an OTA update, the modem will get replaced and you will have to root to replace it. If it is no longer possible to root, then you would be stuck.

I don't advise people to run cross flashed models that aren't rooted, and take OTA updates -- there are just too many risks....

My advice to you would be to root, and then flash the US996 version of Alpha ROM. You don't even have to stay "rooted". You can uninstall Magisk, and just keep the eng. bootloader, and TWRP in case you need to fix your phone. When an update comes out, you can just flash it with TWRP instead of taking an OTA.

EDIT 2: You can try the H915 modem. Grab the latest H915 KDZ that is available, and use partition DL in LG UP and pick just the modem.

  • Download patched LG UP
  • Download US996 10p KDZ
  • Place your phone into download mode. With the phone off, hold vol up and plug in the USB cable.
  • In LG UP, use the DUMP option and select modemst1, modemst2, persist, persistent and misc
  • Then while still in LG UP, use partition DL mode, select the US996 KDZ, select all partitions, and flash.
Enjoy your H910 converted to a US996.

If you have data or voice problems after the conversion, then you will have to root to fix it. You can't root on 10p firmware, so you will have to flash older firmware. Even though you will have flashed the US996 firmware, you can use the H910 root procedure here. Once you are rooted, you can flash a US996 stock ROM via TWRP to return to stock US996 (with or without keeping root -- tis up to you).

Once rooted, you can flash modemst1 and modemst2 (ignore the others, it is just a good idea to have backups of them) that you backed up in step 3.
  • Boot to flastboot. With the phone off, hold vol down and plug in the USB cable
  • fastboot flash C:\path\to\modemst1 modemst1
  • fastboot flash C:\path\to\modmst2 modemst2

Again, those steps will ONLY be required if for some reason you get unlucky and your EFS gets hosed.
@cnjax Hope that is a chick, cause I decided to hold her hand good..... :)

Hi Brian,
Thank you for the guidelines. I have LG V20 h910pr. Followed the above procedure. ROM updated successfully i.e. US99610p. Call quality is OK. For Data following are my observations:
1- Previously I had to dial code (*#546368#*910#) to enable 4G mode. But now it's already in 4G. Showing Global Mode and LTE in Network mode.
2- Wi-Fi Tethering was not working previously but now it's working fine.
3- 4G is working fine with Facebook, LinkedIn etc. but when I open Chrome or Edge browser it doesn't work. Any work arround on this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks again
Zubair

Bands are ok, my carrier only uses GSM LTE Bands 3 and 7.

Will proceed now to flash the old firmware & install TWRP, then root, then flash current US996 and Modem files (obviously, those named "modemst1 & modemst2"). Is this the correct order in which to proceed?

UPDATE: the phone now enters a "Fastboot mode for bootloader unlock" if I attempt to enter download mode. What can I do?

Thanks a lot, once again. :good:

I have now finished installing TWRP. Is the phone rooted at the end of the guide (where it says "you have twrp and h915v10e..."), or do I need to root now?

If I go into download mode, the entire screen is messed up (shows weird pink and yellow pattern of pixels, but won't display message)

However, LGUP detects the device, so I could flash the (entire?) latest US996 KDZ and then a root app (like supersu).
I wiped the data etc. but phone won't boot (stuck at "corrupted" screen).

Can I flash the latest US996 KDZ (everything) and then flash SuperSU via TWRP, do that the other way round, or what should I do?

Thanks in advance

You do not have to root, just follow my post for flashing the US996 KDZ.

You only have to root IF you have signal issues, because that is the only way to fix them. Even then, you don't have to stay rooted.

I doubt you will have signal issues, but make sure you backup those partitions before you flash the US996 KDZ.

I have tried to find that post but have been unable to do so. Is it a thread you started? I looked through your threads but was unable to find anything. Would you be so kind as to link the post?

Just to confirm, will this also work on the VS995/Verizon variant and if so, will it enable the use of Band 12 for T-Mobile and Band 17 for AT&T? Thank you.

Is there any possibility to update H910 to Android 8.0 without rooting or modifying anything? I want stock ROM without root, but since I got a refurbished unlocked V20 H910 running Android 7.0, I would like to get Oreo, but no chance by tapping the software update in About phone... I guess AT&T recognizes when outside US.

Yes, it is. You will prob have to factory reset. My phone is faulty, i end up getting random reboots on any firmware other than 10r. If it goes wrong, you can always go back (recently had to use a firehose to go back, just as proof that there is almost always a way back).

Where do you get KDZ for H910 in case flashing goes wrong? There aren't any on the Internet...
