you could download it first.

adb pull /system/app/PowerGenie.apk .

or something similar
You cannot install it if you're not rooted, cause it's a system app and it's still sitting there in system space.

Disabling powergenie is definitely not working for me. Not sure I actually want to uninstall it though.
Then PowerGenie is probably not your problem.
I have done the following:
Settings > Battery > App launch > Manage all automatically : OFF
And for my apps to keep alive:
Settings > Apps > Apps > 3-dot menu > Special Access > Battery optimization > find apps you want not to allow battery optimization (be aware of the drop-down at the top)

I have tried all those batter optimization exclusions for months. Evaluated all special permissions. Nothing helped. Only removing powergenie helped.

I did not pull it, so I can't test if that's true. But anyway, I am not missing it

I'm a bit of fence after uninstalling it, need to test more but on the first run, i got pretty amazing battery stats and much better performance.

Today the battery life were a bit lower, though it's been 1d 10h since the charge, so i'm not sure if ideal consumption is worse or better.

Also, i have 3 apps that force close after a while, this was kinda ok before uninstalling powerGenie...

More testing will be conducted, please post your XP as well.

I finally gave in and removed it, I'm also on the fence. I'm not sure if I'm getting worse battery life or if I'm just being paranoid where I'm checking it and messing about.

Will have to keep an eye on it.

(The one app ideally wanted to have notifications working still doesn't so powergenie wasn't the issue with that one lol)

Let's put it this way. PowerGenie force closed apps in the background after 30 seconds or so. If apps have triggers configured (like alarm or network change, whatever), they had to be started again which causes more juice than just leaving them running.
So in that regard, the battery life can be even better than before.

But if you have misbehaving apps, PowerGenie would have saved you from them draining your battery. I think things like Greenify or Wakelock detector can help identify those and put them to rest.

force closes aren't caused by lack of PowerGenie. Only made visible. I would get rid of the apps, or turn off the force close notification in the dev settings. (it used to be there, didn't check on Huawei though)

PowerGenie is not the only power saving layer in the EMUI system. You still have to go to your battery settings, open app starts and disable the "protection/management" from the app in question. I have left the ticks for everything I rarely use (like games) and unticked everything else.

Additionally if you go to app settings, open 3 dot menu, special access, battery optimization, pick your app and set "not allowed" or similar (not using an english rom).

If you have done both, your app should be happily running in the background. :cowboy:

Well i have two power draining dating apps, that refreshes more quickly on other phones, but less in the mate, so PowerGenie probably helped with power consumption.

Also need to monitor the idle drain, i lost 5% in span of six hours and half, ebb though mobile data was off.

Don't know why some people have such problems with background notifications.
I've never noticed something like that.

Messengers work fine and apps which scheduled events, too.

Is there a scenario / app for testing purposes?

Found this on another thread (can't remember where) but if you've uninstalled a package you CAN reinstall it by entering the following in an adb shell

cmd package install-existing com.huawei.powergenie

Just tested and it works.

This is a great find, i'm still testing how phone operates with the powergenie uninstalled, so far it is faster a bit, no weird performance limiting and i fixed my idle drain, turns out to be rouge app that powergenie used to to shut down, so it had some use.

I'm still not quite sure myself. I think I'm leaning towards slightly worse battery myself but will leave it enabled again for a few days to get a feel.

I'm not sure too, I'll test it two more days and we'll see.

It might help in killing some rogue apps, otherwise we have to monitor it ourselves, but without powergenie, the phone is definitely smoother and have less wierd issues
