Hello im facing the same problem as yours. No notification from mate 20 pro while screen off after 30 seconds. But the worst thing is, i need to reset wifi connection to get my notification come in. They do not come if i turn my screen on.

Im currently using Push Notification Fixer from Play store apps
This application may help you to get notification while screen off. But only periodically 5-10 minutes. Not instant notification.
have you tried:
for example for whatsapp:
-settings/notifications/whatsapp/ check if "allow notifications" is ON
-settings/apps/apps/three dots up right/special access/battery optimization/ whatsapp/ "dont allow battery optimalization"
-settings/battery/app launch/whatsapp/"manage manually"

Yes i had tried all of them. Even the hidden menu in special access - Unrestricted data access.
This problem occur since software update 9.0.0.222. I think the PowerGenie bug or software bug cause this.

Why you guys are disabling the best feature of the Huawei phones? The standard android battery optimizations are not working properly. Needed apps are killed and useless ones not. The Huawei implementation is good. But keep in mind that you have to set all the apps in manual mode. Normally I need 6-7 apps to run in backgroud (mail, viber, adblocker etc.). So I set these apps to run constantly. Everything else is killed immideately. Of coursre there are some apps like the official Youtube which are killed on screen off even when they are in foreground. Keep in mind that most of the issues are related to the poor developed apps. For example I am using Weather mate (Weather m8) for weather info. I want to use only a persistent notification with the info. But the app is buggy and is not updating. I put a small 1x1 widget to workaround the issue. So the app is updating only when the widget is present.

Because it stops the annoying automatic dimming in chrome, Gmail, Facebook basically all the bright white apps. Also it has given me extra speed, more stability in graphics plus other benefits. So that's why.

Well, the dimming is useful to drain less battery lol all smartphones with oled display do it! Then , extra speed? Wtf.. Anyway, I did not receive notifications even without powergenie ? so I did a factory reset and after some day with notification problem, now suddenly, I haven't notification delay anymore lol

I don't have any issues with not receiving notifications, everything works well. As for speed, I mean a game I play loads a lot faster, while in the game, tasks required, screen changes ECT all are a lot quicker to load.

It might be , i dont think it has a any impact really besides the screen dim, i spent the last week testing with different types of benchmarks and something that i did notice is that once you remove power genie you lose performance mode on you device even it shows like it's on performance mode is really not active also in th e battery regards it basically the same went through testing same apps same network etc and even try to repeat same usage pattern and there was no difference at all. The only difference is the performance mode, try it out run geek bench on your device with and without performance mode the results will be same at least with my device once you install power genie and you run the test again you will see the the results al totally different so to say that i was snappier i dont no I mean it really depends what's on you cache memory.

I am not using any of this apps so I am not affected. I prefer to have the Power Genie because I want to control the autostart of the apps.

P.S. Actually the most annoying thing with this phone is the Dolby Atmos which is trying to adjust the speakers volumeand I am constantly pressing the volume buttons.....

For some it's the best, for others the worst feature :). PowerGenie does not work for anything that's not user:0. So when you are using Android for work partition, it's going to kill your apps. For others it is trying to be clever and detect whether they are required to run or not. Despite its name, it's not very clever. If you decompile it, you will notice a bunch of hardcoded app names like Facebook and a bunch of Chinese crap apps. Those are allowed to run all the time, others are killed. Android has a decent battery optimization mechanism since Oreo at least. It does not get into your way and is never visible or annoying. It works based on machine learning, so it builds a list of apps which are required to run.

Huawei instead just kills everything, masking the fact that Kirin processors have a much higher battery drain than their counterparts.

I have similar issue, as I have already posted in a separate thread.
@klaus27 do you think this is a software bug. All these issues with notifications being late when the screen is off/locked for more than lets say 30 mins?

Try go to settings > more battery settings > tick the 'stay connected when device sleeps'.

Then make sure your desired apps untick on settings > battery > app launch (but keeps tick the 3 option after tap)

Removed PowerGenie yesterday. NOTHING changed with my notifications. I still rarely get gmail on time, if at all. Gmail is the biggest issue, followed by Whatsapp which, after 40ish minutes of locked screen, regulary has one check by the message on someone's phone when they're sending a message to me and it is only delivered when I physically enter the app. Messanger usually lags a good, solid 45 seconds to a minute, even if the screen was recently turned off. I tried EVERYTHING. Manual app launch, mixed app launch, auto app launch, ignoring battery optimization for the apps in question. Dynamic IP. Static IP. Pre-set DNSs. I checked for notifications to have them enabled in the settings multiple times. Literally clicked everything. To show banner, to prioritize, to show in status bar. EVERYTHING, for every aforementioned app and beyond. I even had the tech service of my internet provider come and replace the router (the same company, same model, just a different unit) and install 2.4ghz & 5ghz. I'm beyond disappointed. I really thought uninstalling PowerGenie will help me get notifications on time, but I guess not. I'll reinstall PowerGenie back because the removal fixed absolutely nothing. Hell, even my P20P didn't have any delay in notifications. I love the design of the phone, I love the camera. I love 40w fast charging speed. But due to EMUI 9 on M20P acting like absolutely the WORST software one could have approved EVER - I'll be forced to sell it and settle for, what will likely be, S10. **** my luck

Hang on before you spend another fortune on the S10 :).
I guess you rebooted after removing the PowerGenie? Please go to settings, battery, usage. You should only see "Hardware", "Software" and "Other". NO single app should be in there.
Only if that's the case, you have successfully uninstalled PowerGenie.

While in battery settings, you could try the performance mode. I think it is the first option from the top.

This one is important! Go to settings, apps, apps, open the 3 dot menu from the top right, open special access, battery optimization, set everything to don't optimize (not sure how these options are spelled). You might need to change the filter to all apps. Make sure to also disable battery optimization for the following apps:
GMAIL
Google Play Services
Google Services Framework
Push services

With Gmail being your number 1 issue, I think that it might just be Gmail trying to be clever. If you go to the settings in Gmail, click on your gmail account, select notifications and select "All" instead of only high priority.

WhatsApp, I have 0 issues... Can't comment on that.

Maybe some other settings if the above did not work:
- disable do not disturb mode
- check data saving settings (disable)

And finally, if the above did not help, I would at least do one factory reset and start fresh

In addition to that, there is a very good article around gmail notifications. You can set them on every single label and by default it only notifies you for the first email that arrived.
Check this really good article

https://mashtips.com/fix-gmail-notifications-android/

I was an avid Inbox user until Google sent it to death.... Gmail have me similar headaches, bit it was a matter of setting it up properly

Thank you, @klaus27 I tried everything you said, even before, and nothing seems to be working..?
I honestly don't know what else can I do. Tried literally everything you said in the last 3 posts..
Its really weird when mine have zero issues regarding notifications, & i dont even remove that Powergenie thingy.

Is it because of your network? Some nasty 3rd party apps causing it? Many possibilities.
