Replacing stock launcher

This post seems to have fudged up? I can't see the list of removed bloat with nill for side affects.

Maybe he just removed one thing too many?

I have tried moving Launcher Pro into /system/app instead of /data/app (after removing TouchWiz) but can't seem to get the market to recognize it. Have any of you figured out a way to have Launcher Pro installed to the the /system/app directory and still be able to receive updates through the market? Whenever I click on install through the market it installs it to my /data/app folder, even if I'm currently running it through /system/app. Frustrating!

Current junk list. I left live wallpapers in this time, and found a good bit of crap that's safe to pull. Caveat is that the Backup Sync should not be selected from the sync menu if you pull it, or you'll get a freeze and need to reboot.

Other than that, there's 0 issues with this list so far. As far as the market recognizing the app location for updates, you may be able to fix that with titanium, i believe it has a market fix feature, but not sure. I'll just watch for the version number to change, and pull it down and push it to system/app if there's an update until we see CM.

I also found the files that trip the loss of bootanimation occasionally on lag fix. I pulled the working ones and put them up on Mediafire Here Extract the three files and drop them in the /system/bin directory if you lose the bootanimation after lag fixing, and all should be well.

bumping this up cuz I keep talking bout it but no one really wanting to look for it. renaming or removing tw AFTER you move another launcher to system/app works with 0 problems

worked for me. Glad you mentioned the fc hell that occurs and that it clears up after a reboot....lastly, the order is CRITICAL!!!!

1. move new launcher into system app folder
2. rename touch wiz launcher with .old extention
3. battery pull
4. re-boot

For me, it wasn't a speedboost..I'm getting around the same quadrant scores. I've replaced touchwiz with launcherpro. I actually like touchwiz, but like the scollable dock for launcherpro more. Used root explorer, btw.

I'm did this with LP and the launcher itself does feel faster this won't effect quad scores at which is why you get same scores. also I did it with root explorer

Worked for me. I can tell a difference in LP's responsiveness. May have to hop on over to the LP Forum and see if changing install directories is a possibility for future builds. That would solve the market issue.

Wow! TW in the background really eats up resources!

Maybe everything will run a bit faster, not just the launcher.

Probably safer to merely rename them .old

Anybody running this for a while have any success with Titanium for dl updates easily?

If this doesn't work, do you basically have to go to the market, download LP, which goes to your app folder, then move the new one to the system folder in root explorer, then rename/delete the older version of launcher pro that's already in system?

Has anyone actually done an LP update as above to make sure it doesn't go crazy with 2 LPs for whatever reason?

Yes to all the above. I did it [took less than a minute in RE] and yes I have a few dozen extra mb free which I took back by leaving even more of the apps I wanna keep open open, but yeah TW for me was probably a 25-30mb ram hog I didnt need
