Why?

Lumia 800 is different because most likely it has a 848x400 screen and the last 48 pixels are used by softkeys. WP specs needs all WPs to be 800x480 (or smaller screen specs) with 3 buttons (soft or otherwise). Apart from the Lumia, all other phones released to date have been 800x480. Why loose extra 48 pixels?

aren't the buttons on the nokia actually capacitive buttons and not a part of the screen?

Yeah those are capacitive touch buttons. The screen is integrated into the polycarbonate body so seamlessly that they look like on screen buttons

That would be kind of useless if u ask me. You'll just be loosing screenspace on your display :-S
