Please up vote this post if you are interested in seeing a proper root or a custom ROM (CM7/CM9) for Motorola FireXT (XT-530) just like I do.

I have searched for a proper rooting method for XT-530 but no one seems to have done it with 100% success. Most of them have ended up bricking their device.

If there in enough interest for a port for this mobile, developers here at xda or CyanogenMod maybe interested in working on it.

Please note this thread is only for Motorola XT-530/XT-531

No one has bricked their Fire XT by rooting. Rooting is a very safe process.

The most used method for rooting this phone is this one:

Most bricks were caused by installing incompatible custom recoveries using rom manager.

As of this moment, there is no Clockwork mod (custom recovery) for this phone. However, a dev is working on it and it'll be released soon.

As I said before, I'll be porting CyanogenMod to this phone once GentryLamp releases CWM for it.

You probably deleted the launcher (motoswitch). Install any other launcher from the market.

The only launcher you had was installed as a user app, and you reset the phone deleteing all user apps.

Try this:

-Download any launcher, and rename it to launcher.apk, place it on the SD card.
PS. here is go launcher apk: http://dl.apktops.com/app/201205/GO_Launcher_EX_3.00_fixed.apk

-Tell a friend to send you an sms with a link. say, http://www.google.com

-When you recieve the message, click the link to launch the browser.

In the address bar type "file:///sdcard/launcher.apk", installer should launch and install go launcher.

And this time, please convert the launcher to system app. I recommend launcher pro for this because Go Launcher may be too large to fit on system partition!

Alternatively, you can start from scratch and re-flash the entire ROM from here:
