what i want is a shortcut that uses voice search and sends the string directly to wolframalpha.

I could do all that "whats biggest city in europe" and "flights from memphis to new york" and "whats the weather today?" stuff exept for opening local apps - i dont need that anyway.

Siri gets lost internationally, promises to do better next year

After all the hype (well, that's what apple is all about anyway), they now promise to do better the next time!
The iPhone 4S' Siri integration may be a potential game changer, but she's not quite the world traveler some of us would like her to be. In fact, it seems she's as lost outside of US borders as any unprepared tourist. Looking for a pub in London? Better find a traditional map. Need to know the time of day in Canada? Siri admits she has no idea, go buy a watch. Business search (via Yelp), directions, traffic data, and Wolfram Alpha search all appear to be US-only features for now. The automated assistant's international failings aren't too big of a surprise, however -- Apple's own Siri page outs the service as a beta, noting that some features may vary by area. Stuck with sub-par international support? Sit tight, it's coming: Apple's Siri FAQ states that additional language support (including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian and Spanish), maps and local search content are set to go international in 2012.

And there is:
Apple didn't have much difficulty convincing people they needed to upgrade to the iPhone 4S yesterday. But the new phone's biggest selling point, the voice activated Siri assistant, has apparently already succumbed to the pressure of being at everyone's beck and call.

Over at the Cult of Mac, David W. Martin didn't get around to really testing out Siri until this morning. And when he did, it seems like the backend servers that keep her responding and answering questions were already a bit strained. His first query resulted in a polite, but upsetting, "Sorry, I'm having trouble connected to the network" response. Followed by a "Sorry, I'm not able to connect right now" confirming that Apple's servers are having a hard time keeping up with the initial demand.

Since Siri's knowledge, wisdom, and voice recognition capabilities rely on a connection to those servers, we're hoping Apple is already on top of this because as more iPhone 4S's get into more hands, the demand on her is only going to increase.

Bottom line: All same stuff in different packages. The difference ... Apple gloats and makes a big deal of stuff over something that every other phone has had for a while (Jobs was keen on pointing out that Microsoft copied the GUI & mouse from Apple. Since then however Apple has copied stuff from every other device ... but then that's not copying) and then fall on their face!

Is it just me that is wondering what all the fuss is about? Siri really isnt all that Apple are making out and as a side by side comparison I have used 'voice actions' that has done everything or similar to what people have asked siri. And with a better voice synth than siri too.

You do not make fun out of someone who has just died, and does not matter if it's steve jobs or any of the 150,000. It's called common decency. How would you like if it when one of your parents or your partner dies and people openly make fun of it? I'm sure that steves family are going through hell at the moment just like all the other families who have lost someone. Like I said common decency.
Death is death, get over it, happens all the time. There is no respect in dying and I show none to anyone for dying. I much prefer to celebrate their life. So, please get off your high horse. Oh and if anyone wanted to make fun of anyone of my friends/family dying I let them get on with it. As I said, there is no respect in dying.

Its just the "new hype" to me (poor gullible people). No way in hell that I'll run out and buy that phone because "Siri is great". Nor would I want anything thats from Apple ported over to my ANDROID. But we arent talking about me, we are talking about you. I have a solution........(another member has mentioned this too)....Buy a IPhone? Problem solved. :D

This is the best "Assistant App" out there yet (other than Google Voice). On their forums at speaktoit.com you can request any feature you want and if they feel it should be implemented, it will be. I asked that they put in the ability to play music about 2 weeks ago, 1 week later I get the update that can play music. You guys should check it out. It may not be as advanced as Siri right now but it is still in Beta.

Thanks for all these really helpful comments:
I have found out that the best Siri replacements would be:
GVS
Vlingo
Vlingo
Vlingo
VLingo
vlingo and Vlingo.

Stop repeating the same damn answer!!!! Vlingo is nothing compared to Siri (I am NOT an apple fan btw) but the best we could all do is admit that siri is miles ahead of Googles crappy GVS, I mean you can't even set an alarm clock on it.
You can set an alarm with Google Voice. Say "Set Alarm 7am" and you'll get an alarm for 7:00 am the next morning. Say "Weather" and Google will pull up the weather for your specific location. Say "Send Text" Then say the contact name, then what you want to put in the text. Say, "Listen To" and then give it a song title, it will play the song. It works, and it works well. Even with background noise. The only thing that I've wanted to do with it that I can't figure out is open an app. Everytime it goes to the market.

In conclusion, Siri and Apple can sucka' egg. And by egg, I mean dic*.
