Iris is more of a joke, it has great potential though since it's only in Alpha.

I would say you should go with SpeakToIt Assistant. It can do pretty much everything. It's more of a "ask a question, get an answer" type of app though.

For example, if you tell Siri:

You: Find me a great Mexican Restaurant
Siri: I found 5 Mexican Restaurants in your area
You: Which one has highest rating on Yelp?
Siri: (restaurant name here) has a 5 star rating

This type of conversation can't take place with SpeakToIt. It would be more like:

You: Find me a great Mexican Restaurant
SpeakToIt: I found these Mexican Restaurants in your area

And that's pretty much it. It can't carry on a conversation about the same topic like Siri can. However, SpeakToIt is in Beta stages. You can also go on their website www.speaktoit.com and request a feature. When I first got the app, you wasn't able to play music through voice commands so I went on their website and requested the feature. 1 week later there was an update that allowed music to be played through voice commands.

First let me say, I will never own an Apple device (not even an iPod). However, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Google Voice was available on iPhone before it was on Android. People are just wanting an app that's close or better. Calm down, take a breather. People are just asking about apps.

They've been tearing shreds of the iPhone4s this past week on Absolute Radio (uk) by asking it questions and getting complete rubbish back.

Who in their right mind is going to talk to a phone in public, organising appointments, asking questions and having them read back? Its a new concept and most people won't feel comfortable talking to a handset and letting everyone around them listen in.

Its a gimmick, just like everything else Apple release. They brought out Face Time last time, nothing new about that my Sony Ericsson did that years ago. They love to copy old ideas re-release them and call it a revelation!!

So true! Old wine in new bottle and presto .... they've invented wine!

And, its just not about talking to the phone in public . Worse you say something, the machine misunderstands ... you repeat, the machine says something back that's not relevant ... you then bark at the machine only to be told "a bark is a tough, protective outer sheath of the trunk, branches, and twigs of a tree or woody shrub"

to me siri or any of that mess is kinda useless with the exception of reading text to you, replying to text and using it for the gps if I am lost and this is all only used in the car to keep my eyes on the road or I just don't use the phone at all...but seriously i do not want to have a conversation with me phone...my phone is for having conversations with other people not the device its self. Now being able to use my phone to buy lunch now that is awesome...

i think that Iris works pretty well on the nexus s. ive been comparing it Siri, on my coworkers iphone 4s. most of the time, Iris wins out. Siri has a better, more pleasant voice though. btw, heres a sample conversation that i just had with Iris..

Dude that is funny. Iris seems to do a pretty good job of things for an app that was created in 8hrs...compared to Siri that probably took months or years.
