So, hey, guys. I'm not exactly new here. This is just my first ever account on here, so I can interact with the forums.

I know it may seem like I am freeloading, and technically I am... But is it possible that some highly generous person might be able to compile an AOSP ROM for the LG Zone 3? I have no access to a PC, although I have ChainFire's FlashFire, which works. I also didn't know where to put this thread (you will see why at the end of this post) so if it needs to be moved, I will not have any problem with it.

Again, this is just a request. Anyone who wants to complain to me about freeloading, please don't. I have enough problems with family at the moment, and would rather not have to be on my phone telling someone off than helping my parents get through stuff.

Another thing, the LG Zone 3 isn't even listed as a device on these forums, probably since it is a low end phone (I got it for $40 and it has 8GB of storage, pretty good for a cruddy phone). Could someone add it, just so people like me with this phone can also ask for support, or even publish stuff for this phone?

Finally, I would like to thank anyone who has read this. I know I have taken your time, but anyone and everyone who helps has my deepest gratitude.

Thank you for your support,
Xzanah

EDIT 1: Almost forgot to mention... Do AOSP ROMs require an unlocked Bootloader to flash? FlashFire works, so I dunno. My Bootloader is not unlocked, and I don't have a script to do so nor do I have access to a PC (as stated above).

EDIT 2: Just made a new thread regarding flashable FM enable zips, globally. Anyone wants to check that out, I'm open. Also, nobody has noted this in a week? I guess my device isn't all that appreciated.

1. The bootloader is not locked.
2. Although the device is easily rooted, as far as I know, there are no custom recoveries or ROMs for it

How can i root zone 3? I don't see any links. Can i use Kingroot or Towelroot?
Here are the steps I used:
1) Install Kingroot apk through official site
2) Root Device with Kingroot (this will be unstable, I will now describe how to fix the SU binary)
3) Download FlashFire from the Play Store
4) Download SuperSU binary installer zip from ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 ) (Now officially supported by FlashFire, but this method was used before it was updated)
5) Open FlashFire, grant SuperUser access
6) Click the "+" icon and select "Flash ZIP or OTA"
7) Select the zip you downloaded from the above thread from here on the forums
8) Uncheck all options and click the check mark icon
9) Scroll to the bottom of the page, select "Flash Now" and let the program load (This will take 2 minutes at most). Let the ZIP install, and you will receive an updated SU binary, and the SuperSU app on your device

(Optional) Delete Kingroot and Kinguser after device is rebooted from FlashFire, in order to avoid Kingroot taking over again

10) Open SuperSU app, and select "Update Binary" if the option is given
11) Use your now rooted device

WARNING:
I am not responsible for any damage caused to your device. Do not come crying to me because you messed up.

Thank you for your time,
Xzanah

I'm pretty sure I just kingroot'd, then installed SuperSU (binary update failed), removed kingroot and rebooted, and then allowed supersu to update it's binary. Honestly, I've never used (or heard of, until now) flashfire.

Root For LG Optimus Zone 3 [VS425PP]

I Used NewKingRoot To Root The Phone. Then Supersume To Remove Kingroot & Install SuperSu. Then Uninstalled Supersume. Updated Binary On SuperSu. Installed BusyBox Like Normal. Worked For Me..

With some build.prop and apn tweaks, the Verizon LG Optimus Zone 3 does in fact fully function with at least one GSM carrier that I can confirm, which is AT&T. Because LTE is in fact a GSM based technology, the SIM slot (which provides 4G/LTE connectivity on Verizon's network via UICC/RUIM card) is fully capable of reading a GSM SIM card. Again, however, I can only confirm AT&T at this time and will update accordingly after testing other GSM carriers. It is also noteworthy that the Zone 3 is also known as the LG K4 on other carriers, and specs provide full WCDMA/GSM/LTE capabilities. Namely, the Zone 3's specifications articulate that its Qualcomm Snapdragon 210, msm8909 baseband encompasses quad-band GSM frequencies, 850/900 1800/1900, as well as LTE Bands 2, 4, 5 & 13. This works out great for me, as AT&T utilizes LTE Bands 2, 4, 5 & 17. Bands 2 and 4 are most prominent in the area in which I live.
So, for around $20, the Zone 3 is a great device for anybody who wants to gain root, tweak the build.prop and APN settings, and throw in an AT&T SIM. So long as LTE Band 17 is not the only working frequency in your area, data connectivity shouldn't be an issue.

I will be outlining a step-by-step tutorial on modifying the Zone 3's build.prop and telephony settings once I have had a chance to confirm that T-Mobile and other GSM mvno subsidiaries work on the Zone 3.

Sorry for the delay. Been away from home all week working. Will test T-Mobile this weekend and try to have a tutorial posted by tomorrow night.

Sent from my Moto E LTE (2nd gen) using XDA-Developers mobile app
Update, after further experimentation, and to no real surprise, the Zone 3 does work with T-Mobile. Because T-Mobile operates on LTE bands 2, 4 and 12, 2 out of 3 bands are completely supported. Nearly finished with my step-by-step tutorial.

Thank you for your hard work! Do we need to unlock the phone first for your tweaks to work? I have been checking this thread daily, please keep us posted!

Yes, you will first need to obtain full root. The OP's guide on the previous page is a great method for a rock-solid root for the Zone 3, and the only comprehensive method I've seen as of yet. I deeply apologize for my delay in getting this tutorial posted. Between work and some other personal issues, I've had very little time for my favorite hobby of "Androidology."
Anyway, after gaining root access, go ahead and download a good build.prop editor from the Play Store or your app market of choice. Have an activated GSM SIM card on standby for testing purposes during the process. If all goes well, I'll have time this evening to at least get some initial steps posted for those of you interested.
Thank you for your continued interest and your patience.

OK, first things first. After obtaining root- preferably by using the OP's detailed and comprehensive method-you will need to download a build.prop editor and add the following lines to the Zone 3's build.prop:

telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice = 0
ro.telephony.default_network = 3
ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc = 0

After saving these settings, power off the phone and insert your GSM SIM card. Upon reboot, you should now be able to access Settings -- Wireless & Networks -- More --Mobile Networks and thus set the corresponding APN for your particular GSM carrier.

Next, the annoying "This SIM is from an unknown source" needs to be dealt with. Open a command terminal and enter the following:
su
cd /system/app
mv VzwPhoneService.apk VzwPhoneService.bak

Do the same with:

VzwController.apk VzwDeviceSetup.apk VzwEntitlementService.apk and vzwapnpermission.apk

This should get you up and going with your GSM carrier. As I'm running short on time again, I had to be concise and short. I will answer any questions or address any problems in as timely a manner as possible.

Would the instructions provided work for the gsm version of Freedompop? I also looked and I only found one of the apks vzwapnpermission.apk.
