Requesting Custom Rom to Unlock Moto G6 Play Jeter Xt1922-7

I bought an inexpensive Boost mobile Moto G6 Play XT1922-7 from Walmart incorrectly believing I'd be able to root and network unlock the phone. After browsing through the forum and thanks to the below-mentioned thread, I could root and install magisk on the phone (no idea what purpose these serve). Apparently, that does nothing to network unlock the phone. Also, the phone keeps notifying that some Sprint/Boost native apps are using the battery in the background. My Boost Moto E4 Plus could be unlocked using LineageOS 14.1 as shown in XDA Developers (which I sold off for cool 90 bucks on eBay just after buying this phone - haven't shipped it yet), can I expect the same for this phone? Or should I do something else? This is not my primary phone and I use an LG V20 which dies within 3 hours of screen use and I am really hoping I'd sell off that phone on eBay and use this one as my only phone.

I might sound ignorant or even stupid, please forgive and be kind.

Rooting isn't the same as unlocking. Rooting is similar to jailbreaking in Iphone terms. It allows you to have more advanced administrator privileges, etc. Allows installing of a custom rom as well. (basically you can install another operating system onto the phone, or at least a highly edited version of the one that's already on there.) But as far as unlocking? I have no idea if that's possible with Boost mobile variants.

If you do search on it, there are several companies that seem to offer Moto G6 Play unlocks--even for the Boost Mobile version--and they are in the range of $15. Who knows if they work, but they apparently have a money-back guarantee, i.e. if they cannot provide a valid unlock code, they will return your money. I have not really seen any reports of having done this successfully--particularly with the Boost Mobile version, but if you were to have success, I a sure there would be a stampede for this $79 device!

Hi PimpMy5Ton, that's not the case. You can unlock the network using correct radio/modem. For example, using custom ROM available for Boost Mobile Moto E4 plus, I could unlock the phone.

I'd take offense to your indignance, but it's fine, you are just unaware.

SB581240, just wondering if you have gotten any further with this. The following place says they can unlock the Boost Mobile Moto G6 Play for from ~$11-15. If this is true, I'd go buy myself one now!

Any luck? Most of the times these unlocks only work for international SIM and you won't be able to use domestic sim from Verizon/ AT&T or Tmobile

You'll also find several people offering it as a service on Ebay. With going through them anyways, you'd have a few levels of recourse should they not be able to unlock it. Ebay Buyer protection, Paypal's simliar protection, and last but not least.. your visa or mastercard offers similar assistance. Just a thought.

@SB581240

Just ignore people like Pimp and Xplorer... they are commonly known antagonists on this site. The *whispers* about them are deafening in my circles. They'd rather waste their time being critical and offensive, than helpful and respectful. But hey, let them... its their time, not ours. Right?

This is so kind. The forum felt a little bit like home.

Because of my limited experience with using any of these sites, I can't recommend a specific one with any reasonable degree of confidence. I'd hate to suggest one and then have them screw you over. But, I will say this... it would be worth the risk, considering that its $10ish for many of them. Worst case scenario is that the OP loses his 'lunch money' for the week. Right? Best case, however, is that we will have a positive experience that translates into a definitive knowledge of a working service and your $$ goes towards helping not just you and your phone, but helps the countless others who are looking for a legitimate unlocking solution.

With that said, I actually DO have experience with a specific site and a similar service that I can share. And hopefully my own experience will help you guys make a more confidant decision. Again, its not the same type of unlock you are asking about. However, it'll still provide you with valuable insight.

Long story, short version:

About 15-16 months ago, I found an iPhone SE while metal detecting around some bleachers of the softball field complex here in town. It was a Verizon branded variant. While its not my cup of tea, it's still a rather healthy performer as far as phones go. Antutu scores are well over 100,000 (with highs of up to 140,000). So naturally I was interested in giving it a shot if I could get it unlocked. This one, because it was likely reported lost by the original owner, was iCloud locked and blacklisted from being activated on any of the major provided. I did some google research and found a service with incredible reviews. I'll not give them any free advertising on here, but if you PM I'll give you more details. The service would unlock the cloud account that effectively makes the phone a high performance paperweight. And because it was reported lost/stolen, it was blocked from being used on the major carriers.

I used the *premium* service that guaranteed its removal in less than 24 hours from the blacklist, and also unlocked the icloud account. This upgraded plan was $29.98. They also offered a standard service option that took 3-5 business days, which came at a discount. $14.99 if my memory serves me correct. I was hesitant, to say the least... but I gave it a shot, just on the off chance that it gave me access to a heck of a phone. Low and behold, about 8 hours after purchasing their services, I received a phone call from an Indian man who walked me through all the details, and about 15 minutes later-- I had a *new* iphone SE... which at the time was pretty decent phone!

So yeah... I remain skeptical that most of these types of services and websites are fraudalent. But I can say from first hand experience that it IS possible.

I wish you luck. Let me know if I can help.

Have a wonderful day guys... and just remember, don't pay any attention to the rude comments from others. They seem to measure their self-worth by belittling others, at the expense of their dignity, grace, and integrity.

Like my father always said to me as a kid:

"If I only I could buy that guy for whats he's really worth... and sell him for what he THINKS he is worth... I'd be able to retire today." HAHA!

But the dude wasn't wrong. You can't unlock this phone by flashing lineage. It doesn't work like that anymore. You can't even do it with the e4 anymore (op said he did with e4) now with the last couple OTA updates. They locked them down.
They have qfuses in place as well which are tripped as soon as you boot the device for the first time with the original sim in it.
One way to avoid this is to remove the original sim before you ever boot the device. No Wi-Fi, no connectivity at all. And skip through the setup wizard.
Then it may be possible to try a different network sim. But this may not even work with this device since there are really no custom ROMs for it (aside from GSI that need fixes to work)

Why are you responding if you have nothing new to add? I have understood your point and thanks for that.
I have an idea. If you know where the UICC unlock option is controlled in the firmware, then you may be able to hex edit the carrier unlock for yourself. My best suggestion is to try running a log when selecting the UICC unlock option in settings, then see what it talks to. What you're after isn't impossible, it's just difficult. Don't give up.

Being right or wrong has no bearing on one's attitude and actions.

As you can see, I didn't even get into the actual meat of the subject. I was simply bidding a good day and sending positive vibes towards someone who was poorly treated and spoken to by another.

Thank you for your response and information. It appears you have a deep understanding of the issue, and we all appreciate that.

Most all phones are locked on the carrier side now. I have people ask all the time about it at work and just have to turn them away because only the carrier can.
