Response from Kingo Support

Rooted, easy peasy. It was quite astonishing how simple it was compared to rooting my old phone. I suppose just to pacify my paranoia, I reinstalled SuperSU from Play, but whatever. Again, rooting is essentially exploiting a security hole to begin with. Custom ROMs will have to wait, but for now I thoroughly enjoyed freezing 30 utterly useless apps including Knox.
When you say custom roms will have to wait: Are you referring to you are not ready to flash custom roms or that there is not the ability to flash custom roms for the N3? If the latter is what you are talking about you can flash custom roms using safestrap. Check the link in my SIG for all the info for safestrap and flashing custom roms. If I misunderstood your post, accept my apology.

So if it was a American individual that developed the app and people found it malicious, would you now call that person stupid American? Or would you rather feel more at ease if it was a American developer that created this root app? Anyways, I do understand that you and many other people here are still skeptical about how this kingo app works because of the process it goes through to root the phone. I myself have taken the plunge to use the app and it was very easy. Your device, your choice, and you can only blame yourself if something bad does happen in terms of security breach of information. Thus, I'll blame myself if that ever happens.

People please do your research. If you head over to the Verizon N3 threads you will see that all of us used kingo to re root after the MJE update without any issues. It's maddening to see everyone talk about their info being stolen. Has it actually happened to anyone? Besides root de la Vega and vroot, this is our only other option. Even if someone in China created it, just install the US version of SU.

To those still uncomfortable with the Kingo root method....I recently updated my note 3 to the stock mje update so I could flash the latest versions of hyperdrive and beans roms since they r now based on mje. I intended to use kingo to re root my phone but was unable to do so since I use my phones hot spot feature to get online. Kingo requires an Internet connection to complete the root process so that method was not an option for me. I successfully used VROOT to root my phone and had no problems doing so and the program does not require an Internet connection. The program is in Chinese but it's a one click deal and it's pretty obvious from the main screen what you need to click. The only other thing worth mentioning about vroot is that it installs a superuser app that I'm not familiar with. That was easily fixed though by just installing supersu and deleting the one that vroot installs. Other than that the process went without a hitch. One thing to note though....u have to keep an eye on ur phone's screen during the process as u will get 1 or 2 prompts that require u to tap "ok" before u can proceed any further. Anyways just thought I'd share this with everyone since there appear to be many still not comfortable with kingo and again, vroot DOES WORK with the latest mje update. If this info is already known by everyone then I apologize and just ignore me. If anyone needs the program just reply and I'll upload it to Dropbox and share the link. Peace out my ninjas

The standing practice is to root using Kingo then immediately installing Chainfire's latest superSU 1.85 which overwrites the Kingo superuser. Delete kingo from pc, run virus scan, enjoy your rooted N3.

The mere act of rooting is exploiting a security vulnerability in a device. If you're going to fear Kingo, you might as well never root, never trust any dev, and enjoy a completely stock device. But the government can monitor it and your carrier can lose your personal info to hackers, 'accidental' sharing of personal information, etc...

Anyone not comfy using Kingo for fear of malicious intent will likely not use Vroot which is entirely written in Chinese.

Vroot is an option for those like you for who Kingo didn't work, but clicking YES to a Chinese statement you can't read is going to freak out the same people who refuse to use Kingo :D

Agreed.. logic at its best. Scared using kingo? Let's use vroot instead! Sorry, inside rant.

I had thought that stuff was still in development so as to not trip Knox or because of limitations imposed by its presence, ditto for recoveries. It's the reason why I haven't even bothered to perform a manual installation of CWM. I got the root I wanted and thought I'd let the dust settle until things were further along.

I'll look into SafeStrap.

I found the thread on XDA about installing super user over kingo but let's play devils advocate for one second let's say I'm trying to install malicious software on your phone ... wouldn't I build the software so that even if you installed a different superuser that I would still somehow maintain access of your information

ANY developer of ANY app could do likewise... Devil's advocate or not, using ANY method to root is 'in effect' installing malicious software, as is installing ANY mod, ANY theme, ANY kernel ...

I imagine thousands, if not tens of thousands of users have rooted using Kingo (it says it can root any Android) and the only complaint is that their source code is not public: not that hundreds of users have reported information leaks, strange apps self activating, etc...

To ALL of you who are worried about kingo....guess what? Just DONT root!!!!

Rooting is not for you as any time you root and/or flash a custom rom you are opening yourself up to exploitation and potential retrieval of personal info stored on the device...NUFF SAID!!!!

I think it's cool that XDA is looking to verify the root method. I went ahead and used it a while and figure if they want a little info from me in return for doing the "almost" impossible, I say they can have it :) Rooted without tripping knox, and it's very painless.

Hey look, worriers are not necessarily xenophobic. We were once told here Kingo WAS unsafe. No it IS safe because (as I understand it) they wrote a letter to xda. It isn't insane to hope someone with the skill to analyze code would verify it. As to deleting it and replacing supersu if they are uploading data it's already been done. I have no reason to believe kingo isn't safe and would have assumed it was except for xda banishing links at one time. I do trust xda based on years of use.

Where on earth did that come from??????
Some of the posters' seemed concerned about the fact Kingo is not in USA. My point was I could care less. Android is international. My only concern about Kingo came from some of the initial posts from members of xda warning about data being uploaded. Kingo wrote explaining they no longer do this.

Is there a thread of Kingo users here with discussion and help about using Kingo?

There were a few threads but they were locked back when it was a little more questionable. Probably wouldn't hurt to open a new one.
Well I've not used Kingo so all I can do is wait and watch if someone does. How does Kingo monetise its "apps" anyway?

What do you mean by monetize it's apps? Kingo roots your phone, it isn't a ROM. I've used it and it rooted mine without tripping knox just fine. I'm very pleased with it.

I mean make money. Like an app designer might get paid for including advertising.
