Restoring the Streak 7 using NVFlash

This will bring your device back to the unrooted 2.2.2 stock ROM. This has only been tested by the OP (me) on a T-Mobile 4G version. If you use this on other models, I cannot guarantee it's usefulness.

(Windows Only Instructions) If you’re a Linux user, you should be able to 'translate' this yourself.

This is for those who cannot use fastboot or adb. If you can successfully use these tools, DO NOT use NVFlash. You will lose all your data on your device. Do not proceed with these instructions if you are not expecting to lose all personal data on the device.

Step 1) APX Drivers – To work in NVFlash mode you need to install the drivers for the nvidia boot-recovery device. Power off your device and disconnect it from the computer. Hold down the Volume up & down buttons while plugging in the USB cable. (Or leave the USB cable attached and hold the pinhole ‘power off’, hold down the volume Up & Down and release the pinhole ‘power off’.) (The volume button seems like a rocker switch, but you can hold down both sides at once)

Your computer should now recognize the Streak 7 as an APX device. Manually install it using the nvidia boot-recovery drivers.

Nvidia Boot-Recovery Drivers

Step 2) Install NVFlash. For ease of function simply create a folder on your C:\ drive called ‘nvflash’. Download the nvflash zip and extract it to the nvflash folder.

Step 3) Download the 13 img files that make up the original partitions of the device. Files p2.img through p14.img. Put these files in the C:\nvflash folder. ***You can skip the 14.img file (Don't put it in the NVFlash folder) if you want to attempt to keep your original internal SD Card data, but again, no guarantees.

Step 4) Launch (double-click) the Restore.bat file from the C:\nvflash folder. This batch command will begin copying the partitions to the device. Wait patiently as your device is being restored.

Step 5) Once all of the partitions have been written, use the pinhole ‘power off’ button next to the SD card to power off the device. Now power it back on normally to enjoy your restored Streak 7.

If you have trouble with any of the links or corrupted files, please pm me or reply to this thread.

That's all I can do folks. Ran out of free space on my free storage site. :(

*** Update *** If you are still stuck at boot logo, check to see if you can get into fastboot mode, if so,
finish restoring with the fastboot method.

************* Also, I recently used this method to restore from Honeycomb. I too was again stuck at the Dell logo. However, I was able to use the recovery menu (Vol Up + Power) and do a factory reset and was fine from there.

Original System Files

Boot
System
Recovery
T-Mobile Boot Animation

you didnt tell us what to do with the file !!**Streak7OrigSystem.zipx**!! are we gonna put it in nvflash folder too or store it in SD CARD or what ?

dell streak7 t mobile

hello all

going to try and post again on this site.......I have read the nvflash instructions, also the fastboot method of reinstalling the original system, recovery, boot imgs. then i reread all the problems everyone else is having and everyone being redirected to "Restoring the streak 7 using nvflash". I have successful placed my dell streak 7 in apx mode flashed the files to it but get same results.....t-mobile bootloop. So basically giving up on 3 dell streaks 1-bootloop dell 2 that can only access apx mode.........and finally the the last dell that does boot up but is stuck with the password problem(have loaded nvflash files but still has pasword screen) If anyone has any other suggestions need help......something i want to mention if the machines that only show the 3 lights on when connected to computer or ac adapter are they charging the battery if not shouldnt the battery be fully charged for nvflash to work properly.

Not sure what recovery you are running, but I do remember updating recovery and factory reset to get past the password bug.

TheManii - "• If you had previously gotten the 'password' bug on a previous version of CWM (CWM 4.0 specifically), fac resetting from a newer custom recovery will fix this."

yes i have tried that(and it flashed successfully) but with the same problem still there... and several others on the internet......even tried the nvflash for Streakdroid-HD7-2.0R2 but get errors.......on 2 streaks 7 when trying to use the restore to 2.2 it just sits on "waiting for bootloader to initialize"

I just wanted to thank the OP for posting this. It rescued my Streak 7 from a bad install of CM10.1. I had giveen's CM10.1 installed and something was wrong with it - major lag and strange behavior. I wasn't sure the OP's instructions would work because giveen's CM10.1 rearranges the partitions, but it worked. I followed the first post to the letter and when I was done, all I got was the Dell logo on boot. Nothing else.

So I booted into fastboot, flashed the boot, system and recovery images from the OP and rebooted. The reboot took a while - I thought it had hung again - but it eventually went into the original T-Mobile boot animation and I was in! Thanks again Illdill!

FYI: for anyone looking, the fastboot commands to flash the boot, system and recovery images are like this:
fastboot flash boot boot_orig.img
fastboot flash system system_orig.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery_orig.img
fastboot reboot

Flashing the system image took over a minute, so be patient.

Oh yeah, once my device had booted up again, the internal storage partition was unavailable. So I went into settings and storage and formatted the internal storage, then mounted the internal storage and it worked great.

Ugh. I spoke too soon. My Streak 7 boots into the OS just fine, but I can't get it to boot into fastboot nor is it working with nvflash-mode. It also won't do the OTA update. It downloads the update via WiFi and reboots but nothing else happens. Then it wants to download the update again, as if it didn't get it the first time, but you can see the other update file sitting there. :(

I think you need to nvflash back to android 2.2 to setup your partitions correctly then flash the appropriate recovery with whatever rom your using. Giveen did gave the restore files in his cm-10 thread but it was pretty burried

Thanks Vernox. I'm not sure I understand. I just did the nvflash to restore 2.2, as per the OP. Then flashed the 2.2 recovery. So I'm not sure what I missed.

I guess I better go digging through giveen's thread.

Hmmm... I ran through the original post again, nvflashing and all, and the tablet came back and everything seems to work now - recovery and fastboot.

Thanks again Vernox!

It's been a while, but I believe you only need that file if you are doing a fastboot recovery. For NVflash you just need the P2 through P14 and the bat file.

thanks

First rooted Honey Comb successfully
After that installed this rom by giveen (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130081). This one installed successfully. I tried to go to recovery but there was no recovery :(. Tried to go in fastboot mode but nothing there as well.
Then flashed Streak 7 through your provided method and thanks to you my friend OP I'm now successfully on Android 2.2.2.
Just faced a problem that after trying your method, I was stuck at bootloops. I went to recovery and just Factory reset the user data. And now I'm in....

Thanks you so much

I cant seem to get passed step 4.

When i run the bat file, all the files copy to the device and then the command window closes and my DS7 stays on the APX mode (black screen with lights lit up on buttons).

My device doesn't reboot or show that the files that were copied are doing what they're suppose to. When I proceed to step 5, when my device reboots using pinhole method, it goes back to the Clockworkmod Recovery. PLEASE HELP.

Thank you in advance.
